The Park, Monday Afternoon
It was a holiday, and as as result, Sam had a rare break from work - not only because the Alliance tended to keep the workload light on this particular day of the year, but also because there was a blessedly large number of universes that did not receive Portalocity service on Memorial Day, leaving Sam with less to do for that job as well. And while she'd thought about going to the cookout by the beach, it was a bit cold, and Sam didn't feel much like socializing or celebrating today. She never did on Memorial Day, reallly. So instead, she made her way to the park with a book to read.
After a while, she began to question that decision, because her allergies were acting up something fierce and she preferred to read in the privacy of her home, where she could freely emote. But something about sitting outside in the middle of springtime seemed very classically Earth, and Sam was determined to stick with it for now. Or at least until she ran out of pocket Kleenex.

She liked to cut through the park, as it happened, because she was fascinated by the flamingos.
Also as it happened, she managed to cut through the park near the bench where Sam was sitting and,
because awkward vaguely stalky park encounters are canonstill having no idea what to make of the incident from last week, paused to look in that direction with a contemplative (if distracted) expression on her face."The devil," she muttered, shaking her head as she started to walk away.
