Oooh tonight the DJ was playing a nice mix of those sappy 90's love songs that would always play on WB shows back in the day. Buffy approved, naturally. Could one really get sick of "Linger"? No, no they could not.

She didn't hate the DJ as much as other people did, but her tastes were always questionable.

If you wanna talk to Buffy.

Mike made it to the bar before the music had him tilting his head to the side.

"... Why do I suddenly feel like I'm in high school again?"

Maybe because you were showing your age, Mike. Also, good greeting.

"You've time traveled back to the greatest era of our time," she said. "Too bad you're not dressed for the occasion."

Mike snorted as he leaned against the bar. "Oh, high school was not a very good time for me," he shared. "Fashion included. Nineties tragic."

"Did you have a bowl cut?" Buffy asked.

"No." And he looked –- well, he pretended to look affronted. "Well, not for very long, anyway. I think there was a particularly unfortunate period sometime in my sophomore year..."

"If it makes you feel any better I had some truly horrific highlights in high school," she said. "Can I get you a drink?"

"Aw, I'm sure they weren't that bad." Or he was just really polite. His smile was easy and genuine, anyway. "Yeah, just a beer, please and thank you, miss."

"Oh yay, I'm good at getting beer," she said. "How have things been for you lately?"

That was one vague shrug he gave her there. "Pretty normal. Work, mostly. Ignoring my housemate and our resident teenager arguing with each other. You?"

"Same," Buffy said, sitting down a beer. "Well the work thing, not the housemate and teenager thing. Though I did used to have to deal with that a lot back in Sunnydale."

"What, housemates and teenagers?" Mike asked, gratefully saluting her with his newly acquiered beer. "I'm intrigued, tell me more."

"For awhile there it was me, my teenage sister, my best friend and her girlfriend all in one house," Buffy said. "And then we added a whole boatload of other young girls in the place to train to become vampire Slayers and more often than not my other best friend was hanging around there."

There was a lot of bickering and fighting and Buffy getting thrown out of her own house.

"...it was complete insanity most of the time. It's weird living alone now."

"That... That definitely sounds like a lot of people." He looked impressed, actually. "Also a lot of girls in one place. I'm just used to living around guys, for the most part. And just a few at a time. Way to make my current situation seem normal."

"I seem to be doing that for a lot of people lately," she said, thinking of Dean. "I'm happy to help."

"I'm happy to be helped," Mike replied with a little smirk. "I mean, not that I haven't seen enough crazy of my own to know that most days? Life at the mansion is pretty mundane. Just, y'know, in its own way."

"Seems normal and mundane enough to me. Arguing is what teenagers do," Buffy said. "Your housemate might be a little immature for arguing back though."

Mike looked amused. "Well, he's pretty young? That might explain it."

It was going to be pretty weird for him to find himself the youngest person in the house over the weekend.

"But nah, I think they just have that kind of effect on each other."

"Ah, yeah I get that. I've got a few of those people in my life," Buffy admitted. "I know, it must be so hard for you to picture me bickering with someone, but it happens."
