Devil's Nest, Monday, 7/8

A thudding bass beat with some girl wailing over it greeted Jack when he got to the club today.

Take me, ta-ta-take me
Wanna be a victim
Ready for abduction

When he looked around, he realized the song matched the decor: Silver flying saucers hung from the rafters, and posters reading I WANT TO BELIEVE and ROSWELL had been stuck to the walls. And Tiny's t-shirt had little green men all over it.

Jack was almost certain this was insulting to someone's culture, but he decided to keep that opinion to himself.

Derek immediately frowned upon entry to the club. Because he'd been hoping the music would have magically changed, it would seem.

"Katy Perry?"

Jack rolled his eyes. "Part of a whole alien theme, from what I can tell. We're having fun today."

"It could be worse." It could be playing Werewolves of London.

[bitten_notshy]

"How?" Jack countered. Because he was regarding Katy Perry as cruel and unusual punishment.

"We could be listening to Taylor Swift." That only happened on Wednesdays, though.

[bitten_notshy]

"True. And I haven't heard anything about her boyfriends in hours. I'd like to keep that going," Jack nodded. "How have you been, anyhow?"

Derek snorted at that. "Signed Jackson up for the meditation class. Maybe it will curb some of the attitude."

[bitten_notshy]

"Might help him have more control next month, too," Jack said approvingly. "Assuming he gets anything out of it."

"It better if he wants to stay alive," Derek grumbled.

[bitten_notshy]

"From the way he was a few weeks ago, I'm not even sure of that," Jack said idly. "Do you think he's adjusting at all?"

"Radio said he was a bunny." Which meant Derek had no clue.

Jack laughed. "And now I'm more grateful than ever that the island only turns me into a terrier."

He ... maybe could have been more sympathetic.

"Cat." The grumpiest of all cats!

[bitten_notshy]

"But I'm sure you're a very fierce cat."

Jack still seemed to find this amusing.

"I can throw you through a wall." Just as an FYI.

[bitten_notshy]

"Not when you're a cat you can't," Jack said, but he managed to swallow his laughter. "So," he said, going for a different topic, "Kitty is teaching now."

Cat vs terrier! Who will win?

"Teaching what?"

[bitten_notshy]

"I didn't ask," Jack admitted. (And clearly he hadn't checked the class lists, that would be craziness.) "Something normal, I think. She was talking Abbot teaching math or history in the fall."

"Yeah, because kids here are interested in that," he replied dryly.

[bitten_notshy]

"I'd be interested in seeing a history class," Jack said. "Given there are about as many histories as there are people on the island. At least with math, all the numbers stay the same."

"You'd hope." Somewhere Tony was crying over the concept of warp drive.
