Gert did not want to know why she stepped into work today and came face to face with an inflatable tub full of chocolate pudding just behind the counter, but the kitchen staff told her anyway: it was a rockin' (they said "rockin'") method for keeping cool, and did she want to take her shoes off and stick her feet in?

"I'll pass," Gert said, very, very, judgmentally. "Thanks."

"Going back to work today," Bay answered, sounding a bit dubious about the plan. "Making Daphne and my mom crazy by how much he's not staying in bed. So, pretty much, he'll be fine. How were things here?"

"Scary quiet, actually," Gert reported. "Apart from some puppy party someone had the other day, it's been, like, five-minute radio broadcasts every morning. 'S weird."

"A little creepy," Bay decided, scrunching her nose. "I guess it's convenient for the island to hit the pause button when I'm back in KC, but ... weird."

"I don't know; if it was me, I'd be hoping I missed all kinds of crap," Gert mused. "Like an invasion of fire-breathing lizards or another dungeon trip or something. 'Quiet' here mostly means 'the absence of suck.'"

"Well, yeah, but you must kind of like the suck," Bay mused. "I mean, you do the superhero stuff back home."

"Yeah, it's weirdly easy to endure the suck and still be grumpy about it," Gert shared. "Don't be confused by my adventurous, action-loving exterior. Quiet weeks are way more fun for me than flying fire-breathing pepper weeks."

"I kind of like a good fire-breathing pepper once in a while," Bay mused. "Not all the time, but I guess I like the adrenaline rush. Though I don't want any more dungeons. Ever."

"Yeah, fuck dungeons," Gert agreed. Always a classy thing to say. "Adrenaline's nice and all, I guess, but I think I'm usually more about making sure the people who are really high on it don't get themselves eaten or something. Kind of the 'designated driver' of action scenes."
