Fandom Post Office, July 23 (Tuesday)
Luckily her cat was resourceful enough to figure out how to get to where Éponine kept the food, and the sink in the bathroom had a constantly leaky faucet anyway. Regardless. Alouette was not pleased about being abandoned for a week (the mess of cat food and shredded paper sack were an unmistakable indication), and so clearly the only way to make it up to her was for Éponine to bring her along to work.
Three shredded magazine covers and a half-chewed up letter packet later, Éponine was beginning to suspect that it was going to take a long time to convince Alouette to forgive her.
At least the process of trying to figure out an appropriate bribe for a kitten was demanding enough to distract her from what would otherwise be a fairly self-critical mood . . . even if Alouette wasn't very inclined to answer Éponine's questions. That was normal, at least.

Yes, Alouette got a good one in before Kenzi picked her up, shaking her finger at her. "Naaaaughty kitty."

No, mostly she'd been upset about the prospect of losing that five-franc coin, and was ridiculously relieved she hadn't.

She was also kind of deliberately sneaky like that.

She tilted her head. "Sometimes I think I'd like to live out on the beach, and listen to the waves at night. It's such a nice soothing sound and it seems as if it would be pleasant, but it does get dreadfully cold as it gets late and that's not very nice, not to mention how uncomfortable sand is."

"Awww, that sounds great... then I think about storms, and change my mind." Kenzi grinned. "Although there's a lighthouse out on one edge of the island that I've never explored. That might be high enough not to be so bad. But I bet someone lives there already."

Also relevant to my interests is that Lucy Lawless is playing Mama Morton.
Seriously not going to survive this, but WHAT A WAY TO GOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
