The Causeway, Monday Morning
Water crashing against the rocks. Seagulls screaming overhead. An island jutting up out of the sea, looking a lot like it didn't belong here at all. That took Tamsin back. Europe. Seagull crap.
"Charming," she muttered.
She crossed the stretch from the parking lot to the causeway with her dufflebag slung over one shoulder, the belt cutting into her blue leather jacket. The weight was fine, the strain wasn't. Wasn't so much that she couldn't carry it, rather that she was getting - ugh - old. Now that was something worth feeling nostalgic about.
She dropped the bag once her feet hit the island proper and rolled her shoulders. The Morrigan hadn't been so kind as to tell her where the hell she was going to live. The island had better not be as crowded as it looked - maybe she could jimmy a lock somewhere. Or... live in her car. Appealing. Really. She wrinkled her nose.
"And there's the rotting fish."

In any event, she was on her way back across the land bridge toward the island when she spotted a less-than-thrilled woman with a bag at her feet - the clear mark of a newbie.
"What, you mean you aren't a fan of fish smell?" she joked, feigning shock. "It's right up there with new car and freshly-cut flowers, for me."

Despite the sarcasm, she was smiling, though. Sam was good-natured... just about always. "Samantha Traynor," she said, holding out a hand. "I take it a 'welcome to town' is in order?"

"Straight ahead, past Apocalypse, then a right on Black Swan Drive," she said promptly. "The local street names are a little... quirky."
You know. Just a bit.
"Actually, I'll just show you."

That didn't seem quite right.
