Devil's Nest, Monday, 9/02

Tiny and the DJ had both taken Labor Day off, which meant Jack was running the club solo tonight. Not that he minded it -- it was an excuse to put on a classical music CD and mix the drinks the way he liked them, and not the way Tiny insisted on.

It felt odd to have taken the term off from the school. He didn't think he was going to miss teaching, but he knew he would miss the students.

"Well, this is a different feel than this place usually has," Bruce said after walking in and taking in the classical music.

"You have much better taste than the DJ does, I'll give you that," Bruce said, giving an additional nod as confirmation.

"I'm not sure I'd ever go that far," Bruce joked. "But yes, I'll have a drink. Have any specials tonight?"

"They actually make a dill pickle-flavored vodka?" Bruce asked. "I almost feel like I have to try that."

"If they made it by just pouring some of the juice into the vodka, I'm going to be very disappointed," Bruce said. "I want to think that a scientist was paid to synthesize the flavor through tireless research."

"If there's anyone like that in my world, I guarantee he's getting a paycheck from one of my subsidiaries," Bruce said. "I just don't know which one it would be."

Bruce used sleight of hand that he had mastered years ago to make it appear as thought he downed his shot. It had come in handy many times during his younger party boy days. "It's better than I expected, to be honest. Not enough to get seconds, though."
