Furnado Animal Shelter, Monday
A couple of new dogs that had arrived today were fighting, and April was annoyed, because that meant every dog in the place felt the need to bark about it.
What was even worse was that the barking continued when the dogs' fighting evolved into, uh, more playful activities. April thought it was the canine equivalent of cheering them on, maybe, but either way, it was weird. Enough was enough. She fished around in her desk for her headphones.

His eyes lit up when following the sound of barking led him to the animal shelter. Puppies! And cats! And other fluffy, awesome animals!
"Uh, hi?" he greeted, as he stepped inside.

April blinked - the only sign that she was surprised at all - and yanked one headphone out of her ear. "Wow," she said.
As in, wow, her first customer. That was the source of her surprise. What she said instead was, "Did you get color contacts?"

She drummed her fingers on the counter briefly in contemplation, then wondered, "What kind of dogs do you have?" Well, he'd said he missed playing with animals back home.
