The cook who'd been so upset about the end of summer yesterday was ... still upset about the end of summer.

However, she'd moved on overnight from milkshake shots to gourmet popsicles. Which she'd been explaining to Bay in great detail all morning. Bay's tongue was frozen and tinted a muddy purple from the sample licks she'd taken.

It wasn't quite as good as the popsicles would have tasted by the pool in July, but she'd take it.

"Mexican Chocolate," Kenzi decided, sitting down at the counter. "Hey ya. Think Priestly would care if I taught you stuff when you're supposed to be working?"

She didn't, because hey, it was Priestly.

Bay gave Kenzi a confused look, wondering if she should point out she was actually half-Puerto Rican, before she remembered the popsicle flavors and went to get one.

"No, I don't think he'd mind at all," she called over. "Unless you distract me and I let the kitchen burn down or something. Also, hi."

Kenzi spun on her stool and then snickered. "Naaah, let's not go that far. Although that'd be the cooks fault too." She exchanged stuck-out tongues to check how they looked with the bus-boy and said, "What does the Tamarind Chili taste like?"

"Tamarinds and chili," Bay deadpanned. "I haven't actually tasted it yet. Want to split one?"

"Sure, although I reserve the right to spit it back at her." Kenzi brought out a set of clear locks (http://www.lockpicks.com/clearpracticelockset.aspx) and her picks (http://www.lockpicks.com/20piecepickset-mpxs-08.aspx). "Now, remember. This is just to break back into here in an emergency. Or the dorm, if the locks get possessed."

"Does that happen a lot?" Bay asked, already bending over the lockpicking set. She started playing with them, delicately seeing how the pieces might fit together. "And -- right. Emergency use only."

Though she might later stretch the definition of 'emergency'.

Hey, Kenzi's definition included 'it's raining', so....

"Not too often, but it pays to be prepared." Really well! "I got this clear set from my uncle Pavla. He won't miss 'em." Don't ask why, 'kay?

"The trick is to get the springs and pins to all go up in order, see?"

I need to find a boy version of Vanessa Marano. My life is so hard, man.
