Dite's Decadent Delights, Friday

Sometimes, a guy had to go to work to just actually... work. There were shipments in at Dite's that needed to be marked down on the inventory sheets, and then sorted and priced and put out onto the shelves. A few things were set aside for a display near the counter on safe sex, and then there was cleaning to do...

Dite's was open, and Sparkle was actually doing his job, which unto itself was actually a pretty novel sort of thing.

[OOC: Rainy day revision blahs make for an uninspired post. Open, for as long as the electricity holds through tonight's storm.]

Kenzi wandered in to the shop, and started looking around, humming Carmen or something like it under her breath.

"Hey, dude. What's new and shiny? Or possibly a good decoration for my new abode?"

"... You're furnishing your place with sex toys?" Sparkle was side-eyeing you, Kenzi. "We got some marbled-glass dildos in the back. They'd probably look pretty slick on a mantel."

Kenzi grinned at the side-eye. "Awesome!" Or maybe a poster of sexual positions for Bo. Not that she didn't know them all anyway. "You have to see my new plaaaace. It's right across from Groovy Tunes!" And down the street from the cop shop. But she had dreams that they'd move to the harbor or something.

Anything could happen, right?

"So you are sticking around the island, huh?" Sparkle grinned a little at that. "Great. I was starting to wonder if I was going to run out of like-minded Canadians to talk about burning shit down with, you know."

"I will never stop wanting to burn shit down," Kenzi promised. "And you'll probably be seeing more of me, 'cause dude, so much time on my hands. I almost want another job. Shhh." She paused. "Even though I walked out of this one after a while."

"Which is a shame. I mean, who doesn't want employee discounts on toys, right?" Sparkle winked. "Or first dibs?"

He had the best job, okay?

"I knooow," Kenzi said, not without some regret. "But! Fair's fair. Your job now. Although, if you feel like giving me a past-employees-discount on some chocolates and porn, I'm sure your next glass at Caritas would always stay full." Never let it be said the barter system was outmoded.

Hey, Sparkle was all for the barter system! And it wasn't like he had an employer on the island that he needed to be keeping an eye open for.

"I think that could be arranged, actually..."

The barter system was awesome.

Score! Kenzi nearly danced with glee, and went over to the porn section in a succession of hops, picking out some fairy-tale themed erotica and then bouncing back over. "I'm thinking party on the roof of our new place, soooon. Maybe with fireworks."

"Oh, you know I'm in. You want me to bring some booze? Pot? I'm good for whatever."

Sparkle was a kid of many talents, after all.

"Ooooo yes. I really want to see what Bo is like when she's stoned." Hey, they had a Koushang if she got out of hand, so no worries! "Thinking of inviting the whole block. Minus the cops... well, maybe the cops?" Hmmm. "I dunno, which is better for a big block party with fireworks around here?"

"Both," Sparkle decided, the voice of a professional, here. "Unless the whole neighbourhood has people who'll narc you out, or you actually do invite the cops. Then you'll definitely want to just stick to booze."

"Both it is!" If Jake showed up, he better not be in his professional capacity. He'd never get laid again if Kenzi had anything to say about it. "Gotta check with Bo... she works at Devil's Nest on Saturdays, maybe make it a weekday party." She put her 'purchases' down and grinned. "You been up to anything else since I saw you?"

"Up to? Nothing too exciting, really." Sparkle shrugged. "Working here, working at the other place. TAing in two classes this semester. It's weird, being all... responsible all the time."

He had no idea what the hell to make of it.

... Though, in fairness, he was more a sidekick than a TA in one class, and that one involved breaking things.

"Which classes? And is either one Stealing a Princess?... I'm actually sad I'm graduated so I can't take that."

"What the hell would I do with a princess? I'm taking cooking, and that one about breaking shit."

And he enjoyed both of them, for very different reasons.

"I'd hold her for ransom. At least, I assume that's why they have the class." Kenzi laughed. "Breaking shit? Who's teaching that one?"

"Electroclash," Sparkle replied, shrugging. "And I really prefer stealing things that aren't going to give me a headache from all the squawking about it that they're sure to be doing, you know?"

"Ohhh." Yes, that explained a lot. "And okay, point, although if you bribe kidnappees with manicures, they behave really well."

"Know this from experience, do you?"

Sparkle would not be surprised.

"Puppy Joe likes purple," Kenzi shared, grinning a little, then pouting. "But if your roomie switches sides, you still don't get steak from puppy-napping."

"Well, there's a fucking let-down," Sparkle decided. "Why would anyone want to steal a dog if they're not going to get steak out of the deal?"

Honestly!

"Well, he was adorable. And Zenkitty loved having him over. Teach Derek to not admit his puppy is the cutest," Kenzi mused. "But I don't think I can get away with it like that twice."

Maybe if she broke into his house, though....

"Can't win 'em all, I guess," Sparkle replied with a shrug. "You could start a campaign around town or something. A cute dog contest. Make it all official."

With a name like 'Puppy Joe,' the dog really kind of had to be the most adorable.

"Get Everything but the Monkey to sponsor it, maybe," Kenzi said, dropping the items she'd picked out into a paper bag. "That would be kind of incredibly fun."

"They changed their name now, did you know? They're a shelter. Furnado, or something like it," Sparkle shared. "Found out when I went to get cat food, last. Not a bad place, though. Hard to leave without bringing like fifteen cats home with me."

Sparkle was going to grow up to be a cat lady, wasn't he?

"Furnado," Kenzi repeated, liking it. "Oh, cool. When we found stray kitties including Zenkitty, we had to take them in to Baltimore. Way better to have somewhere to take them here." She grinned. "Soooo? Okay, 15 kittens in a dorm room is not good, but..."

"But kittens, right? Man, fifteen kittens can't possibly be wrong."

"They really, really can't." Zenkitty was probably going to wind up with sisters at some point. They had a whole house now. "That many kitties could soften even Doom. Okay, maybe only an increment, but still!"

So, yeah, Sparkle had to ask...

"Doom?"

In fairness, he hadn't been wandering around the island much since that Sunday shift from hell a few weeks back. Doomhaus was something he had yet to take in, here.

"'Doctor' Doom," Kenzi said, making air-quotes, then fists of rage to shake in the air. "Who bought Efferton Manor and then named it after himself and threatened to demolish it if I didn't go away. Grrrrr. Stupid cape-wearing basso-voiced jackass."

"Had your eye on the manor, did you?" Sparkle raised an eyebrow. "Who would he be spiting if he knocked it down, anyhow? Himself? That's a lot of money to throw away."

"He said he's only here for a year, so, as soon as he's done with it... he better not follow through on that. I hope he doesn't really tear it down and waste all that cash." Kenzi's shoulders dropped and she sighed. "Yeah. That weekend we were all old? I owned it with Bo and Toby. And it was awesome." She pouted. "We had a gazillion kids and half of them were fosters and I had the best shoes ever, damnit. Stupid DOOM."

"I think I remember that," Sparkle offered. "I'm gonna volunteer there someday, or something like that. It's fuzzy." He shrugged. "Anyhow, way I see it, if he knocks the manor down out of spite, you follow him wherever he's going and burn his next place down. Turnabout is fair play, right?"

Was that how it worked?

"Hunh." Kenzi considered, then nodded. "Totally fair. And I bet he has lots of people who want to burn down his life. He necessarily won't suspect me."
