The Perk | Early Monday Afternoon

After days of eating soft foods and not wandering through town for fear of acting goofy on pain meds, Stiles deemed himself recovered enough to go outside. Yes, deemed himself. Because he was an independent almost-adult who didn't need no werewolf telling him when he could leave a house.

He was still staying away from straws (dry socket sounded terrifying), but he did go down to the Perk for a pumpkin latte and a giant pastry. He missed giant pastries. He was also catching up on Breaking Bad on his phone which explained the occasional "Oh god no!"'s and whining noises coming from him.

With his class done for the day, Jim had meandered into town because he'd had nothing better to do. He eventually made his way into the Perk and up to the counter to order something caffeinated before glancing over at Stiles.

"Long time no see," he remarked with a smile. "Got any tattoos to show off?"

Stiles rolled his eyes and paused the video on his phone. Because he would have no distractions while catching up on TV. "No, of course I don't. And I won't ever again."

Jim snickered and put in his order quickly enough before turning his attention back onto Stiles.

"What've you been up to, then?" he asked curiously. "Haven't seen you around the dorms lately."

"Had teeth taken out last week," Stiles said. "I've been in the mansion down the street recovering."

Or eating applesauce and watching bad movies while Derek hovered over him, rather.

"How long's it take to recover from having teeth pulled?" Jim asked considering it was a lot less painful in the future. "Don't they just drug you and get it done?"

Stiles shook his head. "They weren't pulled, wisdom teeth have to be cut out. You get put under and get stitches and everything, it sucks."

"...I am so glad to be from the future," Jim said, crossing his arms and wincing. "How many did you have cut out?"

"I just got all four done," Stiles said. "I only want to go through this once."

[pursuedthestars]

"And did your kind friends at the mansion take good care of you?" Jim cooed, smirking.

[robinonadderall]

"Yes, they did," Stiles said, looking up at him. "Hey, I'm not going to be ashamed of being well taken care of."

In the not dirty sense.

"Who said you had to be ashamed?" Your tone might have contributed, Jim. "I was just making sure you weren't stuck in some terrible hospital that I didn't even know existed."

"Uh, no, it's just a very big house," he said. "And you insinuated shame should be there."

"Maybe a little." He made no apologies. "You seem to be sufficiently recovered, though, if you're out and eating food with society again."

[robinonadderall]

Stiles shrugged. "Don't have to be on pain meds 24/7 anymore. I wasn't fit for society when I was on those."

"On a pain scale, were the teeth worse than the tattoo?" Jim wondered.

[robinonadderall]

"Well I was knocked out for the teeth." He wished he had been for the tattoo.

[pursuedthestars]

"Yay for drugs?" Jim guessed, paying for his drink and taking a few sips of it. "Too bad I didn't know about the whole teeth thing. I could have had the tattoo artist make a house call."

He was kidding but that was actually an interesting thing to do for the future.

"I have enough ugly tattoos to last me a lifetime," Stiles said. "Why don't you get one for yourself?"

"I'm thinking about it," he admitted, shrugging. "Not a bad tattoo, of course, but some designs I've seen are pretty freaking good. And I'd make anything look better."

"So humble," Stiles said. "Gonna get a fratboy tribal tattoo?"

[pursuedthestars]

"What, you mean one of those things that go around my bicep?" Jim made a face and shook his head. "Please. Everyone has those and I don't wanna be everyone. Besides, they look stupid. Almost as bad as something on your lower back."

[robinonadderall]

"So what would you get?" he asked.

[pursuedthestars]

"Good question," Jim said, looking thoughtful. "And I'm not sure, actually. I'd probably want to go with something meaningful since it'd stick with me my whole life. Nothing too wussy either. No butterflies or flowers or crap like that."

"Why didn't you give me this advice when I got my tattoo?" Stiles asked.

[pursuedthestars]

"You didn't ask," Jim replied. "How was I supposed to know you wanted sage advice?"

[robinonadderall]

"I thought it was kind of implied!"

[pursuedthestars]

"Your tattoo is not that bad," Jim told him, shaking his head. "If you haven't gotten it removed yet, you obviously don't hate it."

[robinonadderall]

"Getting it hurt bad enough," he said. "Removing it would probably hurt worse."

"Or maybe you just like it," Jim said which was nicer than implying Stiles was a wuss, wasn't it?

[robinonadderall]

"No, that thing is hideous," Stiles said. "Though probably a good example for consequences of stupid decisions."

"At least you got it in a place where it's easily hidden," Jim pointed out. "Could have been way worse."
