Furnado Animal Shelter, Wednesday
No sooner than had April arrived for her shift today than did a middle-aged woman stop by holding a basket of tiny... uh, somethings. Creatures with beaks.
Apparently her pet had laid eggs and she wanted to make sure the babies went to a good home. As April handed her the usual paperwork to fill out for an animal drop-off, the woman hesitated over the blank left for the animal's species.
"The thing is, I'm not really sure," she said after some hemming and hawing over it. "I could bring in their mother and you could give me your opinion? -- Well, actually, I'm not sure she'd quite fit through the door..."
"No," April interrupted her. "Thanks. Just give us your best guess."
Today, the sign on the door that said NOW HIRING was accompanied by another sign, this one reading ADOPT A MYSTERY PET. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO, followed by a pencil illustration of the beaked creatures. They were pretty cute.

Talk to April
Re: Talk to April
He came in and waved to April. "Hi! Can I see the mystery pet?"
Re: Talk to April
"Yeah, sure," she said agreeably enough, turning away from what she was doing and heading toward the birdcage-like apparatus where she'd placed the small beaked creatures. After checking that no pointy beaks were sticking out between the bars, ready to bite her, she hauled the cage back over to the front counter and set it on the desk.
"Here you go," she said, keeping her tone even moderately friendly - by her standards, anyway - rather than her usual monotone. "There's three of them in there. If you want to hold one, you can, but you'll have to sign a release."

Re: Talk to April
But he was maybe going to adopt one of these critters. April could keep her mouth shut for the sake of the mystery pets.
She grabbed a clipboard from a shelf and set it down on the desk, perhaps slightly more loudly than was necessary. Oops. "Sign there and there," she instructed.
Then she opened the cage, scooping one of the tiny beaked-things out before closing the door again, holding out the small animal for Cecil for as soon as he was done signing.

OOC
I know that feel, Cho.
And new hires would be awesome, just sayin'! All shifts available except for Mondays.
Re: OOC
(Almost sent this from Hannibal's nick, which would've given that question a whole 'nother aspect!)

...which I would have said last night, but I totally failed to think of it, sorry.
