Book Haven, Tuesday
So, while last week was technically supposed to be Evan's first shift at the bookstore, pollen wouldn't have been at all conducive to learning how to work a till. So, today he was finally here, getting acquainted with the layout (not that he didn't already know it off by heart) and how to work the till (which was, in fact, an altogether new experience for him.)
And the entire time, there was a big smile on his face. He was, if not a kid in a candy store, at least a geek in a bookstore, and that made today good.
[Open but skimping on the OCD today!]

minionemployee on his first day.She watched in the stairway for a bit, half-tempted to stay there and see how long it took him to notice, before shaking that off (it was childish and she wasn't going to sink to that level) and stepping into the store, coffee in hand.
"Good morning, Evan."

In fairness, there were books. It could be a dingy basement, and he'd still be thrilled to be working here.

"It's clean," she said, vaguely amused. "But thank you, I suppose. Do not be alarmed if there are further changes in the next few weeks." Rosalind sipped her coffee. "How has your day been so far?"

She drifted over to the till.
"What sort of training do you do in the mornings? Combat?"
He didn't really strike her as the sort.

"Combat," he agreed. "And self-control with my powers. Out on the beach where I can see people coming, just to be safe."
The little guy was full of surprises, right?

"Is it likely that someone would be unsafe if you didn't keep an eye out?" she asked mildly, no judgement in her voice either way.

"About thirty feet out into the water, there's a patch of sand under the waves that's been reduced to glass." He gave a little, noncommittal shrug. "I'd rather keep damage like that to the landscape, instead of people."
no subject
"I'm sure the people appreciate that," Rosalind said, then added briskly, "Come here, I'll show you everything about the till."

It was good, he decided, to be employed by a woman who took what he could do in stride.
"Thank you," he murmured, and if it was about the crash-course in running the till or for not making a big deal out of the conversation they'd just dropped- Well, that was anyone's best guess.

"Attend," she said, once he'd come over. "This is how the till works…"
Rosalind's instruction was simple, blunt, and concise--much like she tried to be. Also, learning to work a till wasn't particularly difficult, especially as the till wasn't a very complicated one.

"And that's all there is to it?" He smiled. "Piece of cake."

She liked that!

"I get that a lot," Evan replied, smiling. "I was one of the best in my class, back when I went to a school where grades actually kind of mattered."
Actually. Kind of. It wasn't like the Jean Grey School students were going to be running off to college or anything.
