As it turned out, Gert had left her wallet in her dorm today, which she only noticed when, on the way from class to her diner shift, she stopped to get herself a quick lunch from the grocery store and found herself walletless.
She sulked at the counter for a while before the cooks generously offered to make her a sandwich on the house, but the tittering from the kitchen made Gert wary, so she declined. She was pretty sure they still resented her for implying that Italian pasta was better than American diner pasta, so the cooks' idea of a generous gift-sandwich didn't sound entirely appetizing.
Sigh.
