The Unexplored Wooded Area, Crack of Dawn Sunday
It started with a humming.
Then the humming became a crackling.
Then the crackling became a loud, cacophonous noise, the snapping of branches and the beeping of various enormous machines as they dug chunks of unexplored wooded area out of the unexplored wooded area.
The noise started, but it didn't stop. In fact, as the day wore on, it got louder and more annoying. Not that any of the workers cared: many of them had had their eardrums surgically removed. Saves on health insurance. Also a big side-effect of overuse of Hyperion firearms, but who was going to warn Fandom about that?
Certainly not the vending machines themselves, which sprung to life around the same time and with only slightly lower decibel-levels of noise. "HYPERION. NOTHING TAKES DOWN A BANDIT QUICKER. HYPERION WEAPONRY. HELL, I'D MAKE BUYING THEM MANDATORY. CAN I DO THAT? WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS. HYPERION MAKES THE BEST! (I'll be surprised if you can afford it.)" And, occasionally, if a cat or a human strayed too close: "HOO HOO WHERE ARE YOU GOING? You still have money left, pal."
At least the newly-activated New-U stations were quiet.
[[ and all the machines are now working! feel free to toss reaction pings this way; just note where you are in the subject line. ]]
