Just outside the preserve- Thursday immediately after radio
Kitty had every intention of going to Clint's after radio, and his house wasn't far from the station. But you could take the girl out of the X-Men, but you couldn't take the X-Men out of the girl, and after the notes she'd read, she had to check out what was going on around the preserve.
She'd barely gotten near the outskirts of the preserve when the bullymong launched itself at her. She had no idea where it came from and luckily reflexively phased so that it came down on the ground rather than on her head or something. Because of that, Kitty probably got a little cocky, because after all, this thing couldn't actually touch her when she was phased, and that meant she could take this thing out by herself. All it took was for her to unphase to pick up a fallen branch, figuring she could use it as a weapon without killing it, and then the thing swiped her across the head with one of its giant feet claw things.
The next thing she knew, there was some weird pixel wormhole thing, and then she was standing somewhere else. She took a second to figure out where she was (ignoring the recorded voice saying, "Permanent death? Schmermanent...schmeath," which frankly should be the X-Men motto anyway), figured out that she probably wasn't far from the preserve, and ignored the voice in her head that kind of wanted her to process the whole dying thing in order to march right back to where she'd last seen the animal thing.
It wasn't a revenge thing, but this clearly wasn't a situation she wanted anyone else wandering into. She didn't care if the death thing was temporary. So when Kitty saw the bullymong hadn't gone very far, she grabbed the branch she'd wanted before, phased, and caught its attention so when it came back toward her, she could just stick the branch through the thing's head and let go, leaving the branch lodged in there. She'd feel worse about it if it hadn't just killed her.
[Like canon never kills her for like two minutes. Open!]
