Post Office, December 24 (Tuesday)
It was a good thing Fandom was as small as it was, because unused as Éponine was to the 21st-century consumer circus that was Christmas, even with advance warning she was out of patience with the post office customers before 10 AM. It had been a mistake to offer to personally deliver people's packages for the past several days -- unofficially, of course, but for a few extra dollars -- just to make sure they'd arrive on time, out of some odd mixture of opportunism and magnanimity; she'd gotten more requests today than she had time to handle, and that was on top of all the last-minute customers who wanted to know why exactly they couldn't get same-day delivery to certain dimensions with unnecessarily complex postal regulations.
By lunchtime she was sitting out on the front step with a large cup of soup and an exasperated expression, and counting the hours until she could go home and get a drink. The last Christmas she could remember celebrating was the year Cosette had gone away; there hadn't been much to celebrate after that.
At least she had the customers today as an excuse for her mood.

Also, courtesy of some of the dorks in the current West End cast of Les Mis, have an epically bizarre cover of "Do They Know It's Christmas" featuring a bunch of different musical casts. You know, in case you ever wanted to see the Phantom of the Opera cheerfully creeping from behind a Christmas tree. Also David Tennant in an ugly Christmas sweater.
