Dite's Decadent Delights, Friday
Sparkle was in a pretty damn good mood today, yes. Why? No particular reason. It was just, sometimes you woke up with a ridiculously catchy song stuck in your head, and the next thing you knew, you were bouncing around the sex store singing about being one of three little maids from school. He wasn't exactly a maid, but he was from school, so he was going to consider that close enough.
He was going to consider that close enough while setting out all of the informational material and product on safe sex that he could find. Because there were new students on the island, and it seemed useful.
"Life is a joke that has just begun...!"
[OOC: Open! OCD-free, as always!]

But she didn't think lobbing a gift (http://www.patinastores.com/catalog/sunshine-day-socks.html) at Sparkle counted. It was wrapped but very soft. Also: gift.
"Catch," she called, letting the door fall shut behind her.
Yes, that was all the warning he was getting.
no subject
"Wha-HEY." He threw out his hand, trying to at least catch them before they hit the ground. "What...?"
Look, this was the first gift-wrapped anything anyone had given him since months ago. It was kind of a big deal.

Seriously, it was like those socks were made with Sparkle in mind.
no subject
"I'll take that as a 'I did good' then," she said, buffing her nails on her jacket.
no subject
Yes. Yes he was kicking off his boots right there in the middle of Dite's.
"Where'd you find these? These socks are like totally speaking to me on a higher level, you know."
no subject
no subject
What? Why put effort into changing socks?
"Shit, Karina. Thanks. I, uh. Kinda sucked at Christmas this year."
no subject
"Hey," she said, repressing giggles at his sock-antics, "don't worry about it."
Karina shook her head and laughed. "But if you really have to worry," she added, "it's September back home. By my calendar you've still got a few months to find me something. Just... don't feel obligated."
Because all she'd gotten him was a pair of socks. It was seriously no big deal.
no subject
"Pff. Like I ever feel obligated to do anything. Your time and Fandom's time work about the same, the offset aside?"
Because, you know, he was just asking casual questions, here. Totally not going to keep track or anything.
no subject
"Kinda?" she said, shrugging one shoulder. "It was exactly on the mark for awhile, then it slowed way down and now it's offset but at the same pace."
no subject
Fucking timelines. Right.
"Weird that it jumps around like that, though. It's like... one universe falls out of orbit from another one, or something. God, I'd like to see a chart to explain that."
His brain would melt.
no subject
no subject
Sparkle didn't sound completely convinced, though.
"But, I mean, it'd make it easier to keep track of who's where, when."
no subject
no subject
He shrugged.
"It'd be good to know. Just 'cause. Unless you were planning on losing all contact with everyone after you graduate?"
no subject
That had... partly been Karina's whole plan, yes. What? It wasn't like she was involved with most of her classmates.
"I don't know," she said shrugging. "I'm not really friends with most people here."
You were pretty much the sum of her friends on the island, Sparkle.
no subject
"Okay. Most people. And the people you are friends with?"
If you were planning on ditching him after grad, Karina, he'd like to know these things in advance. He'd cope, but he knew from experience that being dropped like a hot potato without warning sucked.
no subject
"Obviously I'm going to keep in touch with my friends," she said waspishly. "I just don't need a chart to do it."
no subject
Sparkle was taking that waspish reply in stride. Mostly because he tended to get that response from people. A lot.
no subject
Karina opened her mouth, then shut it, not sure what to say to that.
Had he just said she was his best friend? Or had he been talking hypothetically?
"If it makes you feel better, I was here for that reunion thing," she said slowly, figuring that was a vaguely reassuring response. Also a safe one. That wasn't making... assumptions or anything.
no subject
"Yeah. I was here, too. But... you know. Fandom teases. And just straight-up fucking lies. Better safe than," alone, "sorry."

Nothing in one reality, nothing in all of them. Even his youth record in his own Toronto would be wiped clean once he became a legal adult.
no subject
Not that she was suggesting anything. ... Much.
Okay, she totally was. Shut up.
no subject
"I'd have to talk it over with Lewis first," he settled on. "I'm still on probation. He had to pull a lot of strings to get me this far. Just letting me leave for good, vanish to some other reality without a trace... that might get him in shit, and I--" cared too much about the man to do that to him. "-- Don't want to fuck him over that way."
no subject
Karina glanced at him. "It's just, you know, you don't have to start at nothing. I thought maybe that'd be a good thing to bring up."
no subject
Maybe it would be a good thing to bring up. Maybe it was what he needed. A fresh start somewhere. Like, really fresh.
"I guess I have a bit of time to figure it out," he agreed. "Something to keep in mind, now that it's... you know. There. As an option."
no subject
"And you know what that means?" Karina continued brightly. "That means you need to see my world. We can go shopping."
Sure, they could go shopping in this world, but her world had way better malls. (Karina was biased.)
no subject
Shopping! With malls! Yes please!
"And hey, even if I don't end up there, I wanna check it out. What kind of reality does it take to come up with a crazy girl like you?"
It was a compliment. You could tell by the fond note in his voice and the teasing grin.
no subject
"Oh, please," she said, "it's pretty much a normal world."
It was sad that she said that seriously. Sternbild's construction no longer struck Karina as anything special.
"I mean, okay, we've got Heroes, but that's probably the biggest change."
And one day she was going to have to admit to him that she was one. Especially if he wandered over to her world to stay. Today was... not that day.
no subject
"Heroes, huh? So it goes the other way, too? Good guys, bad guys, the whole human situation?"
He was seriously going to develop an inferiority complex, here.
no subject
"We're not as advanced as some worlds," she said, lifting her shoulders. "We've got... six Heroes in Sternbild and most of what they do is stop crimes against unpowered people by unpowered people. There's been a few criminal NEXT but most of the powers that people develop are pretty useless. Like excessive sweat or stretching your face sort of useless."
She chewed on her lower lip. "It's not like some worlds, you know? The Heroes are all pretty powerful but they're not, like, caped crusaders. They're... a reality show."
no subject
Sparkle needed a moment to digest this.
no subject
Think about that Sparkle. Just... think about that.
no subject
Yep. Yep, he was thinking about it.
".... Oh shit, Karina. I need this show in my life."
no subject
no subject
He was being an ass.
no subject
no subject
Maybe his favourite player was Tim Horton. That seemed extra Canadian.
no subject
"Because the Heroes are, like, celebrities in their own rights," she said, trying to think of a way to explain it. "They do ads and talk shows and everyone knows that Fire Emblem runs their own business and that Blue Rose is also a popstar."
It was too weird to call herself a super popstar, even though that's what she was, while pretending to not be talking about herself.
"You can't get away from them," she said, "it's, like, you open a magazine, there's going to be something from at least one of the Heroes in there, you watch TV, you're going to see them in commercials, even if you don't watch the show. They're on the radio, they do charity gigs and everything."
no subject
"So, more Paris Hilton than Wayne Gretzky," Sparkle theorized. "I guess that's something I'd have to see for myself to really get."
no subject
no subject
Because what else was there to do? Look it up himself? Pfff. He was too lazy for that.
no subject
"God," she said, rolling her eyes but smiling. "Guess I'll just have to show you my world sooner rather than later."
