Isaac didn't really actually need an excuse to take Isabelle out, but having one was a nice buffer for their whatever-the-hell-the-term-was kids called casual dating these days. So thanks for being a complete and utter douchebag, Chuck.

"Don't judge me if I order half the menu," Isaac said to Isabelle. "The full moon's this week."

It was sort of like PMS in the way that it made Isaac slightly grumpy and caused him to eat everything in sight.

Isabelle smiled. "I knew that." Yeah, she kept up with phases of the moon, now. She was totally overdressed, by the way, of course, because she looked fancy even when she wasn't on a date. "It's okay. I like people with a healthy appetite."

Even if they still didn't eat her cooking.

Isaac would do a lot of things to impress girls, but choking down Isabelle's cooking regularly was not one of them. Sorry.

"Well you're with the right person in that case," Isaac said. "Just be glad I don't have weird cravings for raw meat and stuff like that. Gross."

"Gross," Isabelle agreed. She was cool with gore in her life but maybe not in a restaurant or date setting. "That would've definitely kept you from any makeouts later."

"I wouldn't want to make out with myself after that either," he said. "Completely unsanitary."

"Exactly. And just all-around disgusting. That's where I draw the line in fraternizing with lycanthropes."

Raw meat. Yeah.

"Your line is much further than other people's," Isaac said. "Most would have backed off at the part where some of us go nuts once a month."

"Well, most can't protect themselves if that happens."

"Fair enough," he said with a smirk. "That seems to be a trait among most human girls I hang around."

He totally had a type.

"I... am going to consider myself human enough to fit that," Isabelle said. Close enough. "It's a pretty valuable trait to have, anyway."

"Right, right part angel." He still found that hard to believe and he was a supernatural creature himself.

He just needed to deal with the supernatural YA snowflakeness of it all. Isabelle pointed a finger at him. "Part demon. But, I guess that only works where I'm from."

"I think so," he said. "From what I heard my kind of werewolves got started when the god Zeus and turned some king and his sons into wolves and Druids helped them to learn to control their wolf and human sides. But that all sounds like bullshit to me."

Isabelle shrugged her bare shoulders. (What, like she covered up too much for a date? Marks didn't count, though they were there.) "Could still have a sliver of truth to it." Of course she'd think that. "Although I'm not inclined to believe in Greek gods."

"I don't really tend to believe in any type of gods," he said. "Homicidal lizards, yes. Evil tree stumps, yes. Gods? No."

Isabelle believed in angels, if not gods, but she was letting that go uncommented on.

She tilted her head. "Evil tree stumps are a new one."

"Druid thing," he explained. "We gave power to one back home and it's apparently going to unleash all sorts of hell on our town. Allegedly."

Hadn't done anything yet so maybe Deaton was just being dramatic.

"You don't think it will?"

Isabelle would have assumed otherwise. But then Shadowhunters probably would've attempted to post guards around the nemeton, anyway.

Isaac shrugged. "Hasn't happened yet. Been pretty quiet, actually."

"So, it could be the calm before the storm." She paused. "Or just the calm before a really boring and uneventful longer stretch of calm."

"Which option would you prefer?" He kind of already knew the answer.

Yeah, Isabelle gave the question a derisive snort. "Oh, come on," she said. "I don't like being bored, isn't that obvious?"

"I didn't want to presume!"

She chuckled. "Oh, Isaac, there are a lot of things you're better off not presuming when it comes to me. But the fact that I don't like boredom is not one of them."

"Duly noted," he said with a smile. "Though for the record, I did think you would pick that answer."

"Well that's very smart of you." Otherwise she might've had to think he was slow or something. "For that, I can give you the gift of knowing that I'm not bored right now."

That was like a compliment. Almost.
