Cade finally remembered that he had a job and wandered into Stark to a huge stack of old, broken iPods.

Apparently people had gotten new ones over the holidays.

He got out his multitool and began repairing them--making sure to mock all of their taste in music as he got the machines to show him their contents.

Cade thought about it, then shrugged. "Basically."

"Has it been awhile, Cade?" Jim asked teasingly. "Feeling a little sexually frustrated?"

Cade laughed. "There were twins this weekend. Didn't even make it back to the island until class today."

"You're getting old," Jim quipped because that's what he got out of Cade's boasting.

"You're just jealous I didn't invite you along," Cade decided.

"Natalie would kill me if I got invited along," Jim told him, shaking his head. "She's possessive."

Cade's eyebrows rose. "You have a thing now?"

"We've had a thing for awhile," Jim told him, shrugging. "I told her I wouldn't sleep with other people. And it's a good decision because you think you might know Natalie but you really, really don't."

"Oh, I never thought I knew Natalie," Cade said with a smile. "That's what I liked about her."

"Well, she won't sleep with you anymore," Jim said smugly. "She got a taste of me and can't go back now."

Cade burst out laughing. "Yeah, that's what's stopping her. Jerk."

Cade was bad at expressing positive emotions, okay?

"Why are you laughing, you ass?" Jim wondered. "It's the truth!"

Cade was not going to say that Natalie had also slept with Cade's great-uncle. Really. Because he was a jerk, but not a jerk anxious to get into the history of his karked-up family tree.

"I'm just laughing," he said. "I'm as giddy as a karking school girl for you."

"Did you just call yourself a girl?" Jim asked, smirking. "Why Cade, I never knew!"

"Lots of girls you know have goatees?" Cade checked.

"Some of them," Jim said. "And some of them wear the goatee better than you!"

Cade laughed harder. "With those kinds of women, Natalie is a major, major step up for you."

"She digs me," Jim said, shrugging. "And I can't blame her because I'm me. No comment on her being too good for me."

"Then I won't comment on it," Cade said. "How's Haiti?"

"She's in Brazil now," Jim told him. "And I don't know how Brazil is because I haven't actually be there yet. The guy she works for evidently won some big election so that's where they're based now."

"Oh, that's right," Cade said. "He's king of the world now. Lucky them."

"Is that what he is?" Jim rolled his eyes. "Well, at least Natalie knows what she's doing. Hopefully that means he won't cause a world war."

"Well, the official title is Hegemon," Cade said, "and he's actually gonna bring peace. Amazing, given what a total dick he is, huh?"

"Huh." Jim scratched his cheek. "So, she's pretty safe being there?"

Cade tried to remember his ancient family history. "Pretty sure, yeah."
