Conversational Lithuanian, Tuesday evening
"Today," Hannibal said, "I wanted to introduce a few basic verbs that you may find useful." He wrote them on the board:
Būti - to be
Galeti - can (helping verb)
Gaminti - to cook
Daryti - to do
Tureti - to have
He went over the conjugation of each, then continued, "So, I think you've all at least learned enough to begin trying to converse. You will want to know one more very important phrase, however: kaip tu sakai. That means 'how do you say'."
He smiled a bit mischievously. "So. Talk to me and amongst yourselves. Lietuvių. In Lithuanian."

Talk to each other!
Re: Talk to each other!
At the very least, he didn't have to worry about his tongue tripping over difficult-to-pronounce words. He might still mess them up, but that was more an issue with his memory than his mouth or lack of one.
Re: Talk to each other!
Okay. A glance at her notes, and maybe she could at least put this together.
"Šeštadienis," she began. Saturday. "Gal galite man padėti? Aš nesuprantu."
Can you help? I don't understand.
And in case he wasn't already sure what she meant, she added, "Kaip tu sakai unicorn?"
Re: Talk to each other!
"Vienaragis," he answered.
Re: Talk to each other!
Okay, she wanted help, so...
//Ko norėtumėte?//
What would you like? It seemed like the proper response, at any rate. He had no idea how much further they were going to get before he'd have to tap out and ask her to just talk to him after class, but...
Re: Talk to each other!
"Kas atsitiko?" she asked, finally. What happened?
There was one word she couldn't find; maybe it didn't go into conversational classes because it sparked a larger response than one could hope to understand.
"Kaip tu sakai why?"
Re: Talk to each other!
He opened his eyes again, and gave a kind of defeated look to Hannibal. There were a lot of things that needed to be said here, and shy of just asking all of it and having him parrot the resulting Lithuanian, there was no way he was going to be able to do this.
//Atsiprašau. Aš nekalbu lietuviškai...//
Sorry. I don't speak Lithuanian... Jono winced.
//Enough. For this conversation. Enough for any of this conversation.//
He reached a hand up and rubbed at his temple, wishing that he could heave a sigh. He needed one, right about then.
Re: Talk to each other!
Ugh. That was English again. She bit her lip, before remembering that Jono's ability went two ways.
She caught his eye and tried thinking, in a clear directed channel:
I killed some of them. I just want to know that they were clearly in the wrong.
Joker had been shocked that she could imagine the unicorns as the villainous party; Rapture had taught her never to assume based on appearances. If she had helped to quell the rebellion of the downtrodden slaves that the unicorns kept as chattel, then she would feel unsettled about that.
Re: Talk to each other!
This was certainly an interesting vocabulary to cover.
Re: Talk to each other!
//Godumas, žiaurumas...// He balked for a moment, and then decided to just barrel on in English again. //The ones we were fighting got it in their heads that animals couldn't make a claim on the land they've had to themselves for thousands of years. They came with orders to either kill the unicorns, or break them.//
And to be broken could mean so many more things, when you were dealing with the Blood.
//Godumas, žiaurumas.//
Re: Talk to each other!
She glanced over at Hannibal. "Kaip tu sakai uprising?" she asked. "Kaip tu sakai, desperate political coup?"
The men had seemed too well-fed and complacent to be freedom fighters, but she hadn't been sure until she asked.

Re: Talk to each other!
He understood her concern, and he was glad that she had taken the time to ask him about it, rather than letting that concern fester.
//Ne sukilimas. Unless you count the vienaragis. And they had every reason. Ačiū už jūsų pagalbą. Both of you.//
Thank you for your help. It might not even necessarily have been his thanks to give, but he suspected, at least in Eleanor's case, that it was his presence there that had clenched her decision to assist.
