Guilty As Charged: Bike Shop and DA's Office, Saturday afternoon

District Attorney Batman Wayne was having a busy day. He managed to shut down the shipment of caffeine pills his nefarious twin, Bruce, tried to have delivered. But now word was out that a kid at the school ODed on the stuff and it might have been tied into the Skywalkers. There was also something about a horse somewhere?

The District Attorney of Fandom didn't get weekends off. If anything, weekends were the worst.

But still, he was here going through his files in case anyone needed prosecution or bike repair.

Roland wandered into the shop. Maybe he had an appointment? Maybe he wanted new fixie. Who knew?

What was important was that he had a synthesizer with him. He played a dramatic set of notes, like something out of a late 20th century cop drama

"Thank you. Music always makes me work better," Batman said as he stroked his mustache.

Bay was still sniffling as she came through the door, head held high despite the mascara traces on her cheeks.

"I need help," she plead, waving an envelope over her head. "Someone, anyone?"

"What can I help you with?" Batman asked. "Law or Bicycles?"

"Law," Bay intoned dramatically. "I think I'm being stalked!"

She offered him the bright pink, oversized envelope with one shaking hand. "Someone's been leaving me these, dozens a day. I burn most of them, but this one...."

"You should have saved them for evidence," Batman lectured as he took the pink envelope. He opened it and pulled the contents out. "My god." Whatever was in there sure was something.

"I know, but I couldn't stand to have them in the house," Bay said.

She gestured to the card, which -- to eyes other than Bay's -- might appear to be a perfectly innocent Valentine .

"They're all like that," she explained. "It's as if someone knows about -- oh, it's my darkest secret."

Glycerine welled in her eyes as she said 'secret.'

"I'll need to know what your darkest secret is if I'm going to have any chance to prosecute this," Batman said. "Don't worry, you have District Attorney-citizen privilege."

Bay bowed her head, ran a knuckle over her eyes and then mumbled something.

Batman might have picked up the words "brother," "panda," and "never the same again."

"I understand," Batman said, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Do you have any idea who might know about this? If I'm going to prosecute, I'll need as much information as you can give me."

Bay smiled shakily. "Let's see," she said. "Well, it started about three weeks ago ... and they all have some significance to me ... and sometimes they have a drawing tucked in. B-but they're just stick figures."

To an artist like Bay, that was the worst insult of all.

"So it's all very artistic. Do you have any rivals in the art world?" Batman asked.

"No one worth mentioning," Bay said, lips twisted in thought. "A few ex-boyfriends might not be happy with me. I testified before my old galaxy owner went to jail for embezzlement and serial murder. Oh, and there's some little girl on the island who used to pester me about an internship ... but I haven't heard from her in ages."

"I remember that embezzlement and serial murder case. He won't be getting out of prison any time soon. I've seen to that," Batman said. "Tell me more about this intern. Were her artistic skills great enough to make stick figures?"

"Maybe," Bay said hesitantly. "Especially if she had a ruler so the arms didn't go wonky. Some little blonde thing ... I didn't bother to remember her name."

She gasped. "You think she --?"

"It's the only lead we have and that means it must be true," Batman said. "I'll call the police to make sure they have an ATV out on a little blonde wannabe artist."

"Thank you, District Attorney," Bay said, and bit her lip. "But if I get any more cards, what should I do?"

"Save them to turn them into a papier mache knife to protect yourself," Batman said. "It'll be self defense and an ironic twist ending. Make copies of them first, though."

At some point in this thread, a pair of blue eyes might be seen peeking in a window.

Bay's life would be hers, oh yes. She would learn the SEKKRIT of her art, and then she would take over Bay's entire identity.

"I see you, eyes!" Batman yelled at the eyes because sure enough, he saw them. He hopped on a bike and rode it over to the window to get a better look.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! You don't scare me, copper!" she hollered, pulling up her hooded cloak and scurrying away. Because he did scare her. That mustache. That terrifying, terrifying mustache.

"I'll be back!"

But now he had some information to work with.
