Kenzi was back, and pouring shots. After checking that she hadn't sprouted extra limbs from exposure in Radon Canyon, today had been boooooring.

So here: Jell-O shots.

"Hi, Kenzi!" Cecil sighed and threw himself down on a bar stool, pouting. "I'm homesick already. What sorts of jello shots? Do you have the ones that glow?"

Cecil was probably taller than you remembered, Kenzi. Also with (not much) more five o'clock shadow. And a baritone.

Still recognizably Cecil, though.

Give her a sec, to get over the pointing. And blinking.

Cecil frowned down at himself. "Am I glowing or something? I thought the Radon Canyon stuff had mostly faded."

"Noooooo, but, but, when did you get old? Dude!" You're supposed to Tweet these things!

"I'm not old!" Cecil protested. "I'm the same age I've always been! Well, not really. I mean, I wasn't born this age, that I know of. But I'm the same age I've been as long as you've known me. Give or take a few months. Oh, and except for when we got turned into kids. So...maybe not."

"One for you." Kenzi pushed over a blue raspberry vodka shot. "And one for me!"

'Cause if they were talking about time again, she was gonna need it.

"Yesterday, you were what, 17? And today you're...?"

"Yay!" He downed the shot enthusiastically. "Yesterday I was 42. Or 34. Or...well, okay, it's complicated. And especially since time doesn't really mean anything. I mean, what exactly is 'yesterday'?"

Yeah, protip, Kenzi: Cecil wasn't much different in an adult body.

Gestures of frustration! Emphatic Russian ones!

Right, another shot. And one for Cecil.

"No, see, yesterday, you looked like a teenager! Now, you look like an adult! And it's not 'cause of your clothes, although I like that tie."

"Thanks!" Cecil beamed at her. "I probably just seemed a lot younger because I was so happy to be home," he theorized. "Also, this cold - ugh! - I swear it ages me."

Kenzi paused. Then shrugged, sighing. "Okay then. But! If I suddenly am old tomorrow, you are going shopping with me to get better clothes."

"We can do that whether you're old or not!" Cecil pointed out happily.

"True!" Kenzi snickered and poured herself a Coke to sober up with. "Plan!" She sipped her drink. "So how are ... things?"

Are you still in school, Cecil? 'Cause that'd be weird.

Of course not, silly; he was a teacher!

"Pretty good mostly." Cecil frowned. "I'm homesick, as I may have mentioned. And I'm a little worried about Jono. But I did get to talk to ♥Carlos♥ earlier, and my vision's almost back to normal after Radon Canyon, so that's good!"

"Why are you worried about Jonothon?" Kenzi paused, and added, "You didn't say your vision went funny!"

Now she was feeling all kinds of freaked out about that Canyon again.

"You mean yours didn't?" Cecil cocked his head at her. "Huh. Must be a Night Vale thing. But - oh, yeah, Jono." He shrugged. "He seems a bit bummed about the whole 'not having a head' thing. And did you know, he hasn't had anyone to kiss in ages? I think we should set him up on a date. What sort of thing does he like?"

Okay, that required a slug of Coke to help Kenzi keep up.

"When did the 'no head' thing happen? Or are you talking about the bandages around his face? 'Cause I've always thought that kind of sucked.... I dunno what he likes in girls. Except, well, girls. Maybe somebody who can sing?" Since he couldn't? Or would that make everything worse?

Cecil sighed. "I have no idea what to look for in girls. Or who can sing. And not just the bandages, it's like...his whole head now. I'm not sure when it happened. But that's how I found out about the lack of dating. I told him, I'll be eyes and ears for you, sure! I mean, what's the loan of a few senses for a friend, right? But no smoking or kissing, or the bad flavors of schnapps. And he said, he hadn't had anyone to kiss in a long time! Isn't that awful?"

"Nooooooo that can't have happened... I knew about the no kissing for a while and I just... Man, I have to go visit him ASAP 'cause that shit sounds terrible."

And not cry, like last time, damnit, when it was just his chest and face gone.

"Now I'm depressed. Damnit, that's so not fair."

"Oh, no!" Cecil chewed his lip. "I'm sorry; I shouldn't have said anything, should I?"

"Nah, it's not your fault," Kenzi said, waving from the bar-top. "Just... sometimes life sucks, you know? And it's better this way. I won't freak out or cry on him like last time." She hoped. Yup. "Have another Jell-O shot. And I'll try to think of someone cool--" Bo, maybe? "--who he could somehow still hook up with."

"You make good Jell-O shots!" Cecil downed a green one. "Do you think he's too old for Raven?"

"Ahh... I don't know. I don't know how old he actually is. Twenty-something?" Kenzi took another slurp of her Coke. "Maybe? We should ask her first, though. She might want a boyfriend with a head."

Which almost sounded unreasonable, but hey, that was pretty common, right?

"I suppose." Cecil shrugged. "Have you got any purple shots?"

Here, not going anywhere. Wishing I was in Bali. Or Radon Canyon.
