Fandom Post Office, March 4 (Tuesday)

Éponine wasn't asking why there was a ping-pong table set up in the middle of the post office lobby today. She just wasn't. If it kept the customers occupied while waiting in line, she wouldn't complain.

She might, however, eventually get extremely annoyed if they kept swinging their paddles too hard and getting the ping-pong balls lodged in the light fixtures, because guess who would probably end up stuck with the job of retrieving them? Yes, she could reach up and pull them out without getting herself stuck in the process, but it wasn't like she enjoyed being this thin.

Maybe she could just conveniently take a long time on her delivery route today.

Or challenge her to a ping-pong match. Whatever.

Even if Eponine was going to ignore the ping pong table, Jack didn't share that ability. He raised an eyebrow as he got up to the counter.

"Hosting a beer pong tournament?"

Éponine let out a mild snort of laughter. "God knows where it's come from. I'm certainly not asking. I don't much care, really; so long's people are having fun they're less likely to be unpleasant by the time I have to deal with them."

"I don't know," Jack offered lightly. "There are some sore losers out there. Might put them in an even worse mood."

"What a silly thing, to get so worked up over a game!" Safe to say Éponine would never understand people who took sports very seriously. "Well, I'll worry about that if it happens, as it hasn't yet. But why are you here? Not to challenge me to a match, I hope," she said with a brief laugh.

"I've no idea how to play," Jack admitted laconically. "No, mainly I wanted to say hello! It's been a rough few weeks, and it seemed like time to check with my friends."

That got a grin out of Éponine, as always happened when someone referred to her as a friend. (If she was aware that this was a little bit sad, she didn't seem to care that it was.)

"It has been odder than usual lately, hasn't it? Though I don't mind much -- besides having to stay back here while the school went off to some sunny island far away, that is, and that I didn't mind all that much." She picked up a stray ping-pong ball, fished out of one of the ceiling lights earlier, and began rolling it back and forth on the countertop but stopped, and looked more closely at him instead. "Have you been well enough, despite it all?"

IDEK, dude.

Most likely, I'll be painfully slow until I get home from work again. Whee.
