Luke's, Sunday

Sheba wasn't sure why the kitchen staff thought "all day brunch" was such a strange concept. Surely her male counterpart had been as into breakfast foods as she was? It was the most important meal of the day! Even if you happened to be eating it for dinner! Sunday brunch was just the world's way of crying out for more opportunities to eat scrambled egg and 15 different varieties of carbohydrates.

Plus, you know, mimosas. Mimosas were an important part of any balanced breakfast.

Today's specials
Omelette bar
Breakfast burrito bar
Mimosa bar

Luke's was open. And rather full of delicious fats and sugars.

"It's like you knew I was gonna be here!" Dinah was already headed over to the burrito bar. "Awesome!"

Dinah finished making her burrito-- with bacon and peppers, nom nom nom-- and then joined Sheba, grinning as she joined her. "I think you're right. 'Cause otherwise I wouldn't be here for the next couple days before I head to El Paso for spring break."

"Want to come with?" Dinah coaxed. "If you think the diner can survive losing you for a few days." She took a bite of her burrito and asked, "Anything weird happening here? Or, more weird?"

Dinah considered that. Then she considered the mimosa bar. "Hang on."

She came back with one of her own, with champagne in it, and took a big sip. "So, not just you." Which meant her Priestly might suddenly come back? Or come back with wings or something? "Hunh. I'm so listening to all the Radio podcasts before I leave. This mostly seems harmless."

Except for how her best friend was still missing, even though she had a newish best friend, and that had to be weirding Sheba out still. "You doing okay?"

Frankly, that kind of freaked Dinah out more, possibly because of how Priestly was the first person she cared about to disappear into the Nothing. What if Sheba suddenly just wasn't there tomorrow?

"I'm gonna check in more often now. Just to be sure you're okay." Dinah took another bite of her burrito, and chewed glumly. "In other news, my bosses aren't going to be able to hire me full-time after graduation, so. I'm back on the job hunt."

"A couple. I'm just worried that I'll wind up working a retail job before I get hired. I'm not sure how good at that I'd be," Dinah admitted worriedly. "Or an office job. I mean, I guess I could do that."

Aside from bouncing off the walls for forty hours a week.

"Or move back in with Barbara." Which would be defeat. Damnit.

"I know, but I was... and hey, you did." Dinah sighed. "I'd like to feel like an adult, you know? I feel like I've been a kid for long enough."

Dinah blinked. She had a distinct memory of helping Jen and Priestly house-hunt that first summer after they graduated... but well, maybe that was a few months on?

"Okay, point." She took another sip of her mimosa, and nodded. "Momo suggested a I bust up a bank robbery to get some attention, but I don't think P.I.'s are supposed to be that high-profile. Guess I'll just have to pound the pavement for a while."

Part of her wanted to invite Sheba for a visit. And then another part of her was missing Priestly too much to do that.

"Yeah, electronically," Dinah agreed. "... if you're still here, you'll come to my graduation, right?"

That probably sounded pretty damn wistful and worried.
