Luke's, Tuesday, March 18

Dominic did a quick check of the kitchen staff as a weirdness gauge before going to the counter. Today, all was normal except for the fact it looked like the dishwasher had finally traded in his neon-green Crocs for a pair of shoes that didn't make Dom want to go blind when he looked at him. So this was an improvement.

In a quiet moment, he entered the name "Bay Kennish" into the search bar on his phone and navigated to the Facebook profile of a pretty strawberry blonde who talked way too much about Buckner basketball for Dom to believe he had anything in common with her. (Well, at least they were both from Kansas City. So that was something.)

He was going to go right back to trying not to think about it too much.

Welcome to Luke's!

"Hello there, good sir!" said a perky blue monster. "Might I trouble you for a peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk?"

Grover turned in a full circle, looking for the guy. "I do not see anyone!"

"Thank you," Grover said because politeness was very important. "Excuse me, but...where am I?"

Grover looked as bewildered as a fuzzy blue Muppet without eyebrows could manage. "But that is not possible! Fandom Island is off the coast of Italy!"

...and just in case Dominic needed a little more help, Grover added: "Italy is a country that is very, very far away from Sesame Street. And Maryland, usually."

You had one distressed Muppet on your hands now, Dom. "But that is where it was when I took off this morning!" Grover practically wailed. "It is not very convenient, an island that moves mid-flight."

"Of course," Grover said. "Landings are still a little tricky."

"I also always wear a helmet," Grover said. "My mommy insists on it. What happened to your hand?"

"Or oven mitts!" Grover suggested helpfully, holding some bright red ones out that he'd gotten from...somewhere.

It was really better not to ask.

"It is almost as becoming as blue," Grover said, nodding his fuzzy head, "but it might be difficult to serve peanut butter sandwiches in."

Hint, hint.

"No thank you," Grover said politely. "This is a very nice restaurant. Ours is full of yelling and no electricity."

"There are big fires instead," Grover said. "Lots of pigs on spits, that sort of stuff. I have missed peanut butter sandwiches."
