Cecil had been right; that Tino guy didn't seem to blink an eye at Kenzi showing up for work on Monday night. He did blink at Mia, but she blinked right back, and solemnly offered him a zombie ear that had fallen on the floor.

"Don't put that in your mouth," Kenzi told her. "I know where it's been."

Who are looking nervously over at the bar. Possibly because Mia keeps coming over to stare at them.

Kenzi probably has no idea who you are, but she's happy to play along for tips.

Kitty had come in just to make sure Jamie hadn't destroyed anything (too badly) for tonight's shift, and once again she was surprised to see someone behind the bar. Namely the kid.

"Who's your assistant?" she asked.

"Hi!" Mia waved, and bounced up to wave both hands over the edge of the bar top.

Kenzi briefly looked hunted, then tried, "What do you mean? This is my co-worker. Mia. She's just two today."

"TWO!"

"We have a Mia now?" Kitty asked, but gave the kid a smile. "Hi, Mia. Having fun back there?"

"Yes! There's ice cubes!" Mia held one up, giggling, and Kenzi gave Kitty a bright smile. She was kind of getting the impression she was supposed to know this person.

"So! The usual?" Um. "...remind me what that is for you?"

"I'll just have a Coke. I just wanted to make sure Jamie didn't leave any surprises behind today," Kitty said, and nodded towards Mia. "But seriously, what's up?"

"Whaaat are you talking about?" Kenzi was pouring a Coke, even more nervous. "She's always been here."

"Mommy pours drinks!"

Damnit, Mia.

"Yes she does," Kitty said, raising an eyebrow. "Mommy, huh?"

"That's what those hospital people told me when I woke up. I mean, I was a little stoned, they could have switched her out with a tasmanian devil and I wouldn't have noticed..."

Ha ha! Hee! Hee? "...this isn't a problem, is it?"

"Nope. As long as she's not sampling the product, it's fine," Kitty assured her. "Let me guess, you're new in this version of town?"

"God, no. We got enough losers in my family." Kenzi snapped her mouth shut, then relaxed, smiling for real. "Kinda, yeah. Although I guess not as new as I thought. According to a few people. So, you're who?"

"Kitty Pryde. I'm your boss here," she smiled. "And we go to each other's parties and stuff."

"Oh! Jeeez, hi," Kenzi said, chagrined. "I was just, you know. Worried that you'd make me do another job interview or something, and." She looked over at Mia. "I could really use the money."

Mia climbed up again, head not quite clearing the bar top when she stood on the rail, and offered Kitty a cherry. "Here!"

"Thank you, sweetie," Kitty said, taking the cherry. "Your kid is a kick in the ovaries, Kenzi. And I'm not gonna make anyone interview. I know you can do the job, so it's yours while you're here."

"She is pretty darn cute, isn't she?" Kenzi picked Mia up, unable not to grin while settling her on her hip, and gave the toddler a little drink parasol to play with. "Thanks. I appreciate it. I dunno about all this weirdness going on, but the people here? Totes cool."

For napping.
