Conversational Lithuanian, Tuesday evening

Hannibal greeted class this evening with a nod. He appeared to be the Hannibal who had started teaching this semester, only his suit was a little rumpled and he smelled faintly - over his cologne - of viking. (At least he'd been able to win them over to let him past, but the hugging...)

He waved at the board. "Today's vocabulary. We should probably discuss a few things. I've been listening to the podcasts of the island's radio for the last month."

"So." Hannibal gave them all a wry look. "Can we discuss?"

Oh, Eleanor had a question. You could tell by the polite way she was raising her hand.

"Is there a psychiatrist skilled enough that he could convince a knife-wielding maniac not to kill him?" she inquired sweetly. "By analyzing her mind, or ... whatever it is that you people do."

The her was deliberate. So was the knife in her sock.

Hannibal eyed Eleanor mildly while keeping a close eye on the distance between them and a hand in his pocket on a scalpel. "I imagine that would depend not only upon the psychiatrist, but upon the knife-wielding maniac. Her reasons and convictions. Is there a particular reason that you ask?"

"I doubt knife-wielding maniacs have reasons," Eleanor said brightly. "Perhaps she doesn't like your face, or thinks shrinks do too much poking into people's innards. Although that would be rather hypocritical of her, considering her intentions."

She wasn't really going to kill him - well, not today, in the middle of class, anyway. Any game this delightful ought to be savored, not rushed.

"Curiosity," she added, to answer his last. "Boredom. Why does anyone do anything?"

Hannibal could respect both reasons. "Curiosity and boredom are both valid reasons. In that case," he answered with a smile, "I would endeavor to engage her curiosity and interest more by my life than my death."

Yes, he was interpreting her answer to be to the other question. He felt it was somehow more appropriate.

Oh, he was fun. So many people just blubbered and screamed. But then, a psychiatrist. She ought to have expected.

"But death is so interesting," she said, lifting a shoulder. "You'd have to be quite the specimen to be as fascinating in life. How would you propose to get her attention?"

"If she proposes to kill me, I would assume that I already have it," Hannibal answered with a smile. "And I find one of the best ways to remain of interest is not to divulge everything at once."

Jonothon was mostly there because, honestly, how many people here had experience with killer dinosaurs, really? And how many would be insane enough to try to show up here regardless?

He'd lived on the island long enough to know these things, thank you.

So, yes, while they were holding a class, he was going to be paying close attention, but he was also here in case anybody needed an escort after the fact, because really, he'd blown the head off a snark (which was sort of like a hammerhead t-rex) before, actual dinosaurs couldn't be much more difficult.

Hannibal had no experience with killer dinosaurs, no. Unfortunately, he hadn't known about them before leaving home.

He nodded at Jono. "How long have these latest guests been here?"

//Only since this morning, so far as I'm aware,// Jonothon replied, arms crossed over his chest. //This is the first we've seen of anything openly hostile since the madness started to set in, from what I can tell. I missed some of it, too.//

There was a good week in there where he wasn't entirely certain which way was up, after all.

... And whatever his counterpart had encountered before that.

"It doesn't bode well for the future, does it?" Hannibal asked. "I'm of two minds as to whether I should head home and stay for a time, or if I would be more likely to see things coming here, if it continues to spread." As these things did seem to.

//I can't even guarantee that you'd be safer in Baltimore,// Jono noted. //You... er... you've changed a few times since this all began. Likely from your very own home. Still... Baltimore will probably have fewer dinosaurs in it.//

Ever try diplodocus meat?

"So I hear from the radio." Hannibal shook his head. "I don't remember any of it, I'm afraid. And while Baltimore might be physically safer, the issue would be in making it there."

He grimaced and hoped the dinosaurs didn't make it as far as his Bentley. He hadn't tried dinosaur meat yet, but it was certainly an intriguing thought.

//You know, I am a walking explosive,// Jono replied, sounding at least vaguely amused by the situation, now. //I can get you safely as far as the causeway if you need. I... probably should avoid Baltimore, though.//

The locals probably wouldn't be terribly thrilled to look at him.

"I think I should prefer to know what's happening," Hannibal answered after a moment to think. "But an escort to the hotel would be welcome, thank you."

He was a risk-taker, not stupid.

And if Jono managed to kill any dinosaurs, they could always try the meat!

//To the hotel, then,// Jono agreed, managing something like a nod, at least, with that helmet of his. //And if you need any further escort from there...//

He lifted his shoulders slightly.

//Can't answer a phone. Can't read a text. Think my name loudly enough and I'll likely hear, though.//

Yup. Think loudly.

"I'll do my best." Hannibal generally tried to keep his thoughts as quiet as possible, but he imagined he could manage.

Today, he put out:
Porcini with foie gras and douglas fir
Bone marrow, caviar, and herbs
Molten chocolate cake with pomegranate granita

"My apologies," he said. "I had glögg as well, but I encountered a group of vikings on my way here." It was a pity, as he suspected that they all could use a drink.

If anybody has a suggestion about any of this, he is all ears.

Couldn't resist Mads getting on with vikings. *g*

Okay if Eleanor is now super-evil and wants to get her threaten on?
