In accordance with the prophecy.

Zoe, complete with flower crown, looked pretty pleased when she made her way to the microphone. "Good evening," she said. "It's my pleasure to announce this year's Prom Court. For the juniors, your royalty is Flick and Isabelle Lightwood, and this year's King and Queen are Jackson Whittemore and Jessica Drew. Thank you all for voting responsibly."

Well, except for one person ~~*cough*Madrox*cough*~~.

It was rigged, rigged I tells you.

Flick's reaction, when he actually realized his name had been announced, consisted of squinting in confusion and saying 'seriously?' several times.

But, he went up and took the tiara. He tried to argue against putting it on but relented so he'd be left alone. And then he was just going to slip away before the dance because yeah.

Jessica had won enough things at Fandom that she wasn't completely surprised by this. Still confused, yes. Surprised, not necessarily.

Still, she made her way up to accept her crown and wonder how exactly the last couple years happened.

Because the sparkly tiaras weren't torture enough.

The punch has been spiked, probably the moment the rest of you were waiting for.

Jim had mingled a bit and now he was gonna take advantage of the best thing Fandom had to offer: free food.

Indeed.

After getting another crown to her continued confusion, Jessica decided to celebrate with a probably spiked drink. But it was just going to be one drink because she wanted to remember this in the future.

She hung around the table while she nursed that drink, though.

For your non-ritual humiliation dance needs.

Which are probably seeing more action than the rest of prom.

For whatever reason, Flick was still there but he hadn't moved much. Maybe once to get a drink but that was about it. Guess he didn't have much else to do but attend a dance and stand around in a suit.

Or more likely chaperones by this point in the evening.

After running a bit, picking up some spending cash, grabbing an actual suit coat and nice shirt, drinking a horrifying egg-based hangover cure, and taking a shower, James was back in the chaperone area, looking halfway respectable for once. Of course, he'd committed several crimes over the past half hour so he wasn't respectable. But still.

It was a convincing enough illusion of respectability! Electroclash looked halfway impressed when she spotted him again.

"Huh, so you're not passed out at the bottom of a random gutter yet."

Such a compliment.

"I fell into a gutter or two during my run, but I stayed conscious," James said. "And now I'm back, nice and sober." Ish.

"Impressive." Ish. "By which I mean my powers of persuasion, not what you actually did."

Of course she'd spin it like that.

"Sure. It's that that's impressive, and not how I look in like 90% of a suit," James said because screw you, ties. You were a choking hazard. "Don't worry, I believe you."

"You better," she noted with a smug smirk. "Otherwise your chances with me will go down to a round zero, you know."

"What are they right now. High 90s, right?" He was assuming she was into near-delusional levels of confidence.

"About ten." Probably higher but wow, she would not go along with near-delusional. That was Excelsior's shtick. "On a scale of zero to a hundred."

"I was never good at math anyway," James said. He could work with a long shot. He saved the universe once. And let's be honest here, there weren't many things with worse odds than that. "So, do you usually end up chaperoning these things?"

Electroclash sighed and rolled her eyes. "Only every fucking time," she rasped. "I suppose they think some of the kids might need emergency counseling. Someone steps on someone else's toes on the dance floor or spills a drink on a fancy bloody suit or the like."

"You never know, somebody might get epically dumped and have their life ruined forever," James said. "And if that happens, they have the perfect person to tell them to stop crying, grow up, and deal with it."

He assumed that's what guidance counseling was.

Funnily enough, that was her assumption too. Which was kind of terrible since she was the counselor but oh well.

She'd also been drunk when she'd put in the application.

"Or I might just tell 'em to have more punch. C'est la vie, brats, you get dumped, you get sloshed, you move on."

Because the world ending is totally ungroovy, man.
