Bay had somehow expected more to change after she graduated -- but nope, other than the diploma in the bottom of her suitcase life seemed pretty much the same. Same island, same issues, same dishwasher singing off-key to himself at the diner.
At least she had a trip to L.A. with Gert later in the week to look forward to. She hadn't been to California since she was tiny, and the fantasy of sun, fun and movie stars -- even if she knew Gert would say it wasn't at all like that -- was pretty appealing.
She sketched a palm tree and the Hollywood sign on the menu board before taking her place behind the counter.
