So. It had been months since she'd been Amelia, thank Ifrit, but Rosalind had felt like wandering the island tonight and had... somehow wound up wandering in to check on Kenzi.

Residual fondness? Rosalind didn't really want to think about it.

She considered the specials sign with a slightly bemused expression. "... toes?"

"Taken from healthy and very tasty monkeys," Kenzi improvised, looking pleased. "There's a cheese sauce that goes with them." She tilted her head at Rosalind. "I don't think I've seen you 'round here before. I'm Kenzi."

"Rosalind," she said, giving the sign another look and shaking her head slightly. She didn't bother to correct Kenzi. "I run Book Haven. And I think I'll pass on the toes, no matter how healthy the monkeys they came from were."

Rosalind considered that briefly.

"What do they do with the rest of the monkey?"

"Well, the brains get fed to zombies at Caritas." Kenzi should know, she had to hand over that bucket, ech. "I think the skulls get given to witches. The rest, your guess is good as mine, but at least the PETA can't complain we killed them for their fur, right?" She reached for an order pad, and said, "If you don't want monkey toes, can I interest you in some salamander on a stick? Or maybe a mexi-mocha chocolate shake?"

Next time she ventured into Caritas, she was going to think about that now, Kenzi. Thanks.

Now that she was here she could hardly get away with not ordering anything. That would be weird.

"I'll take both," Rosalind said, since while they both sounded weird they at least weren't toes in a cheese sauce. "Though I'd like a definition for a 'mexi-mocha', if you don't mind."

And yet, still ordering it...

"Chocolate and coffee ice cream, a dash of hot sauce, chocolate syrup, some cocoa and espresso," Kenzi explained. "First thing I ever ordered here, and I loved it. Soothing and jazzy at the same time." She yelled back the order to the cooks, then turned back. "And okay, we were cleaning out the freezer, and I wanted to see if they could actually make something out of the monkey toes."

"I do like coffee," Rosalind admitted. "I'll probably enjoy the shake."

She hesitated a moment, then asked: "Has anyone ordered the toes?" she asked, unable to resist. "Or have you tried them?"

Were they actually edible?

Kenzi opened her mouth, then shut it. "Someone must have, we have less than we started with?" she tried.

Yeah, no, she wasn't admitting to anything.

Rosalind raised one eyebrow.

Really, Kenzi? Really? You were going to try that?

Kenzi raised an eyebrow back. Then the other eyebrow. Then alternated.

You wouldn't get her that way, Rosalind Bookstore Woman!

Rosalind's eyebrow inched higher as she considered her chances of winning against... that.

It wasn't worth it.

"You look ridiculous," she said, instead. Because it was true.

"Thank you," Kenzi said, pleased. See, she hadn't had to answer! "So, how's the book business?" She looked thoughtful. "Haven't read anything that's stuck out lately myself. Busy busy... although I do need ideas for my class."

"It does well enough, when the island cooperates."

Which probably went equally well for every business.

"Do I want to know what class you teach?"

"Choose Your Own Adventure!" So now you know... whether you want to or not, Rosalind. "Trying to combine experiences with consequences. Or avoiding the same. So far, trips to a casino, and a graffiti art studio. I need to find a really good tattoo place." She frowned. "Or a magic tattoo artist. Or something. 'Cause someone else is already teaching about roller coasters, and another teacher grabbed beaches, so..."

And then of course, Dean Skywalker was telling them to Try Not To Die.

"So... if beaches and roller coasters are out the obvious answer is tattoos?"

Rosalind was baffled at that logic, yes.

"Why not rock climbing? Or... I suppose other suggestions would depend on what you're teaching concerning avoiding consequences...?"

"Basically to always have bail money and a lock pick in your socks."

Kenzi considered again. "Also, sometimes it's worth it to get arrested if you have enough fun." She looked speculative. "Maybe breaking into cars this time. IT's useful. And I never make them do the illegal things." She blinked at Rosalind as if just seeing her. "Want to teach something useful and fun to my class sometime?"

Rosalind looked mildly alarmed.

"I don't know any fun things." Everyone said so!

Illegal, though? She knew illegal.

"It doesn't have to be this week," Kenzi coaxed. "I mean, my class is tomorrow. But I've got another five weeks to fill here." She grinned like a chipmunk. "What did you do before the bookstore? What kinda world are you from? What's the wildest thing you've ever done?"

Asked not to be intrusive, really. Although Kenzi did want answers. But mostly to encourage Rosalind into seriously thinking about helping out.

Rosalind blinked.

"I..." What counted as wild by Kenzi's standards? "I once flew a plane without any prior training as to how."

Did that count? It had been for the job.

"...Are you serious about my teaching?"

"Just for one week," Kenzi reminded her. "Eponine said she would! Jono might. C'mon, it'll be fun. And flying!" Kenzi rubbed her hands together. "Anything like that, c'mon!"

Rosalind was still skeptical about this whole thing, even for just a week.

"Why are you roping other people into doing your job?" she asked dryly.

[Heading to bed! SP?]

"I'm shocked, shocked at what you're implying. Don't you want the join of warping-- molding young minds?"

['course! And the offer is open, if you have ideas.]

"Warping?" Rosalind sounded vaguely amused and vaguely appalled. "I had enough trouble raising my sister, let alone other children."

She was proud as hell of Elena but, seriously, raising her had been an adventure and a half--for both of them.

[I love it! Rosa's still not sure, though. XD Silly Rosa.]

"Which is why this is only for one week," Kenzi pointed out. "And it's for a fun thing. And I'm still responsible or something if they wind up in jail." She grinned. "You have a sister? Is she on the island?"
