Bay thought she might be sad to go home at midsummer, but now that the date was close she was mostly relieved. Her family was going through drama. She had a brother who had reacted to impending divorce by taking of for Iceland; one mother who was writing baseball player porn; and another mother whose new job seemed to be leading her into some dangerous places, not that Bay would ever hear it from Regina. All that was pretty much par for the course -- but, for the first time in months, she wanted to be in the middle of the craziness instead of half a continent away from it.

The urge to go home immediately might have had something to do with how Bay didn't really trust Emmett's new online girlfriend and wanted to be around when she visited (or "visited") him, but she would never admit that.

In between rolling napkins and pairing ketchup bottles, Bay spent much of her shift cleaning out the bin full of crap she'd left at the diner over the past year. There were more barrettes, Sharpies and scarves in it than she'd even known she ever owned.
