JGOB | Sunday Afternoon
Jim knew that coming back to the island every once in a while probably made it harder for him to move onto a future but he didn't care. There were at least people here that he knew and that weren't complete and total assholes. He didn't have to deal with his stepfather and he didn't have to put up with constant silence from his absentee brother. If anything, he at least had the cute girls and guys behind the counter to flirt with.
But, he wasn't doing that right now. He was sprawled in a seat with a foot on the table like he owned it. He didn't but no one had told him to mind his manners so he was going with it. He had a muffin and a water and he was scrolling through his phone, looking for any sign of communication from a few specific people.
And there was nothing. Seemed like that was how it was going to be from now on. Whatever, Jim was used to people leaving him. He'd deal and no one would really know he was affected. Sure, there was some angry chewing of the muffin but maybe the muffin was just really, really good.
Okay?

Casually, like she didn't currently have a kitten draped around her neck. Or her free hand up to make sure the kitten stayed there.

"Most people would wait until the animal's full grown," Cara said, earning a dig from those tiny sharp claws for her trouble. She reached up to scratch behind Surreal's ears placatingly. "And if I did that I'd be out a girlfriend."

"You train pets," she said instead, her tone making it clear how well she thought that would work. "You don't act like their personal servants."
Again, more of a dog person.

"Yes, I couldn't get here fast enough when I realised you were on the island," Cara said dryly. "I came by for a late lunch."

She'd maybe missed him a little.

"Sharing your bed with a woman and a cat are two very different things." Soft and cuddly as she may be. "Unless there's something you want to tell me about how you've been spending your time?"
