Trooper Station: Saturday

Vic Morretti, the last honest cop in Fandom sat at her desk as the sound of raindrops hit the windows like the soft patter of morse code being sent from a beatnik on LSD.

She let out a long sigh. It was a tough beat to walk in Fandom. The only thing that kept her going was the nine slugs she had. Six were the lead bullets she kept in her revolver and the other three was the rotgut she kept hidden in her desk drawer.

She pulled on her shoulder holster, put her badge on her belt. "Mount up, Ralph. Time to bust some heads."

It's always a good idea to check in with the local brass when you're in a new town. Some people would say I'm not much for good ideas, but they'd be the kind of people who think skydiving is a just a hobby.

"Dinah Lance. P.I.," she introduced herself, holding out her ID for anyone to see who was looking. "I'm here on the case of the Black Canary."

"Awww, is it illegal to be a shamus in this zip code, Sheriff?" Dinah wised off. "Am I looking at time in the lock-up for carrying a gun and an I.D.?"

"Better than flathead," Dinah replied breezily, eyes hardening. "But it's your patch. Message received. Loud and clear."

"You're right. Wouldn't want to stop you from ticketing those rickshaws. Someone might get hurt." Dinah flicked the brim of her hat at Moretti and her Stormtroopers, then sauntered for the door.

At least when the blood hits the fan, Moretti can't say I didn't try. But I had a feeling she'd be looking for a way to hang me out to dry, if I didn't stay out of her face.

Time to get gone.
