Fandom Post Office (July 15, 2014)
Whatever ridiculousness had struck the island this time, Éponine only knew about from customers asking her what kind of bizarre life she remembered living over the weekend, due to having been stranded off island on a special delivery trip.
Nothing to do with spotting Cosette coming across the causeway while she was on her way back from that trip on Friday evening, then following her. Really. It was entirely unrelated to how she'd decided that she just had to lurk across the street from Cosette's father's house, watch them talk animatedly over dinner, and then use her envy as an excuse to beat herself up some more for being a terrible person who clearly deserved to have a pathetic life in comparison.
It had nothing to do with that. That was only the circumstance that had led to her not getting back to the causeway before midnight and then finding herself unable to cross it until Monday morning.
Clearly she'd missed something, though, and she was sorry she had. At least she'd brought her cat in with her today, and watching Alouette -- no, the irony of that name was never going to escape her again -- pounce on bits of dust whenever they caught the sunlight was a halfway decent distraction.
