Jessica was getting a quick breakfast while waiting for her portal. She had her bags next to her. Her costume was on underneath her clothes. Her final radio was in the books. And, at least in a general sense, she'd said goodbye.

And still she was waiting. This was really the worst part of the whole leaving thing. Fortunately, she had a donut to help her pass the time. She also had a phone filled with games that she couldn't be bothered to play for more than a minute each. Yeah, she was a little twitchy. And she was still waiting.

"I was up early enough to hear your broadcast," Cade announced from the door. "Aren't you proud??

"See? That's true friendship," Jessica said. "Thank you for that, I am proud."

"Couldn't let you just wander out of here without a celebratory pastry and a kiss," Cade replied.

"Can't help but take a shot even when I have one foot out the door?" Jessica checked with a chuckle.

"Bird's gotta fly, Cade's gotta Cade," he agreed, winking. "Pus I'm outta here in a few days myself. There's no time for an epic love story."

"What are you doing when you take off?" Jessica asked curiously. "Back to the pirate's life?"

"I was thinking of branching into bounty hunting instead," Cade said. "Less 'working for an asshole not me' involved in it."

"And maybe you'll even do some good for the universe," Jessica said. "I like it. It's a good fit for you."

Cade smiled. "And what are you going off to do?"

"I'll be doing what I do," Jessica said. "With government backing and on a team."

"Going legitimate," Cade said. "Good for you."

"I've been legitimate for years," Jessica said. "I'm just getting to do it full time now."

"With medical and dental and retirement and kark?" Cade checked.

Sia was well-practiced in keeping her emotions in check, but she still didn't look happy when she showed up. "This day came too fast."

"It was a long time coming," Jessica said. "But yeah, it kind of did."

"My life is about to get so much more boring," Sia said, taking a seat.

"It's still Fandom," Jessica said. "You'll still have plenty to keep yourself entertained."

"Yes, but it probably won't involve gremlins and common rooms."

Oh yes, she was totally bringing that stuff up on your last day, Jess.

"You never know. My weird gremlin luck could pass to someone new," Jessica said. "Anything's possible."

"As long as it isn't me," Sia said immediately.

"If it is you, you realize you can never tell me, right? I'll mock," Jessica mentioned.

"Of course I wouldn't tell you. I've met you," Sia said.

"Good," Jessica. "For you. Very sad for me, unfortunately."

"Just never catch up on radio broadcasts." And this was how you knew Sia was a true friend, because she'd even mention that.

"If it helps, I'll probably be too busy for that anyway," Jessica said. "So you're safe."
