"What the hell happened to you?" the cook asked, staring at Eliot as he checked over the stock in the walk-in cooler. "We haven't seen you in ages."
Eliot stared back. He had a bandage across the bridge of his nose and two of his fingers were taped together. "Military coup."
"There's been a military coup?!" asked the busboy. "Did England try to take us back under the matriarchy?!"
Eliot narrowed his eyes at him. ". . . Yes."
The busboy shrieked and rushed out. Eliot turned back to the cook. The cook shrugged.
"Maybe in his world, they did."
