The Park, Thursday Morning

Despite their differences, Atton and Anakin actually had a lot in common: a dark side past, a propensity towards complaining, the deaths of women they were in love with... yeah, they had ample reason to square off for a nice one-on-one with emotional sharing and coping and blah blah blah whatever they were going to be whaling on each other with practice lightsabers like the grown adults they really weren't.

Atton had left his jacket at home, partly because he didn't want it getting wet (because that was still a looming threat) and partly because he needed to maneuver more than he needed the jacket's defensive padding. Otherwise, though, he hadn't prepared much.

Look, he knew his own abilities with the lightsaber were no match with a guy who'd been trained with it for years instead of weeks. Didn't mean he was going to admit he was totally outmatched.

Atton lit his practice lightsaber and gave it an easy swing before getting into place. "Blue?" he muttered. "They just stopped trying in your time, didn't they."

Because it's tradition.

Watch two idiots smacking each other around instead of talking!

"Blue or green, yeah," Anakin said, shrugging his robe into a puddle on the grass just like Obi-Wan had taught him. Drama queen. "Red if you were evil, purple if you were Mace Wind."

"I like mine better," Atton said, shrugging... just shrugging, because space, Anakin, you drama queen.

He fell into a Makashi stance because hey, Anakin already knew he knew that one.

Anakin smiled and settled into the opening movements for Shien, holding his lightsaber in a reverse grip. In his head he could hear himself lecturing Ahsoka about using this, but it was sparring, not battle. He could get a little fancy.

He curled his fingers in the intergalactic "Come and get me" signal.

Atton didn't move for about two seconds.

Then he did, delivering an opening strike towards Anakin's lightsaber hilt.

Anakin twisted his arms out of the way, fast as thought, and used the momentum of the twist to slice his weapon at Atton's arm.

He wouldn't cut off any limbs with a training blade, but, well, Anakin's training had been fairly "and now we cut off a limb" intensive.

Atton had accounted for that basic move, though, and his feet carried him out of the way while the edge of his 'saber glanced off of Anakin's.

Anakin's eyes lit up--the sound of two lightsabers hitting was one of his favorites--and he followed up with an aggressive swipe at Atton's stomach.

Atton hopped back, letting Anakin's lightsaber glance off of his again in a fairly transparent attempt at deflecting it into a direction that'd make a counter much easier.

Anakin's eyebrows rose. "You don't think I fell off of a speeder in the Outer Rim yesterday, do you?" he teased, countering Atton's attempt before it could start.

Nope, just figuring out what Anakin's counters were like and what he anticipated.

The only way Atton was getting any blow in is if he tried to outthink the lunkhead, after all.

"I dunno," he said, doing a graceful back-step, "Could be."

In between complaints about getting drenched with ice water, one towns person had called in about two guys with laser swords dueling in the park. Vic assumed it was nothing but showed up just in case it wasn't.

"For the record you two aren't fighting are you?" Vic called out from a safe vantage point. "Because I'd hate to have to shoot someone today."

"No," Atton called over, "If we were, there'd be less limbs on both of us!"

Anakin snorted and pushed his attack with a grace he seldom showed anywhere else. Anakin had been born to duel. "Not likely."

Yeah, Atton was getting the picture: this guy was good.

In a straight-up fight, anyway. Atton hated straight-up fights.

He grunted, barely catching the blow this time, and took another leap back.

"You can't hop around forever," Anakin replied, grinning.

Atton rolled his eyes. "I could, actually," he said conversationally, then took a horizontal swipe at Anakin's lightsaber hand.

"But it would look extremely stupid," Anakin said, dodging out of the way of the blade.

"Only idiots care about looking stupid," Atton said. "You know, when it's about getting your head bashed in."

He continued the arc of the blade so it was a sweep - quite contrary to the style he was using otherwise - and tried to clip Anakin across the back.

"Lovely," Vic deadpanned. "Enjoy your little swordplay, boys. And try not to die until it's on someone else's shift. I don't need the paperwork."

Sia had been going for a run, but slowed when she got to the park and saw what was going on.

And then she found a place to sit and watch. What, she was curious.

Anakin crouched out of the way, but his eyes widened in surprise. "New style."

"Is it?" Atton said, circling around him fast. "Guess they don't teach that kind of thing at Jedi school."

Then his circling turned into more of a leaping-- not to attack Anakin because water inbound.
