The Arms Hotel, Saturday

Today had already been... interesting. That was a good word for it. Nikolai had woken up on his couch with some kind of tiny goat sleeping on his chest, wearing a pair of sunglasses, with no goddamn clue who he was, or where he was, or why the hell he had a goat in the first place. There were bills on the table, at least, and so he managed to figure out his name quickly enough, as well as the fact that he was apparently the sort of person to make long-distance phone calls to people all around the world. And the sort of person who apparently slept with his shades on.

The explanation he had for all of this so far was that he was probably some sort of eccentric with memory issues, who had a goat (the goat kicked him whenever he called her that within earshot) as some manner of assistance animal and who... somehow knew J-Lo personally. Movie star who suffered some kind of head injury? He had weights in this hotel apartment, but he sure as hell wasn't some kind of bodybuilder. And he had no real explanation for the leather duster and goggles setup in his closet, except that maybe he figured he was some kind of motorcycle cowboy.

He wouldn't have even made it downstairs for his hotel shift at all if it hadn't been for the fact that he was hungry, his fridge was pretty much bare, and he couldn't remember or even begin to guess at the passwords for his laptop and his phone. One of the cooks caught him before he could wander outside, goat (Maaah!) in tow, informed him that he was late, and then sat him down at the hotel desk.

Welcome to the Arms Hotel!
Today's Specials:
Beef Stroganoff
Quinoa Vegetable Salad
Apple Crunch Pie with Vanilla Sauce
1/2 off to anyone who woke up today not knowing their name!

"Well. That rules out the movie star thing."

"Maah."

Nikolai took off his shades to rub at his temple. He was getting a headache from this.

Somebody across the room froze, and then fainted dead away when he put his shades back on. But rubbing at his temple seemed to help with the headache, at least, and there was a list of emergency numbers at the front desk, so the situation was clearly well under control.

[Open!]

"How's business going?" Kenzi asked, walking up like she owned the place.

Maybe she did! She'd bet you didn't know!

"You called in a doctor, I hope? We don't want to get sued." Kenzi almost tacked on an 'again', but felt like that might be pushing it.

Pushing what? She had no idea. She was just going with it.

"My suite's ready, though, right?"

Hmm. Which one would she book? She wanted to say "the best one" but...

"The Presidential."

Hopefully it wasn't occupied. Or she was going to throw a fit! A fit, I tell you!

"Smartass," she added belatedly. "Really. Is this the way you talk to your boss?"

No, really, is it?

"Seriously?"

She had six! And no idea which one was real!

But hey, this one looked a lot like her, except blonde, and more... something?

"Astra Jones."*

*[In case she ever had to claim to be Bo's sister, or wife. Because that day would come, probably.]

"You lost the booking?" Kenzi mixed outrage with disbelief there. Pretty well, too. "I can't believe this!"

Hmm. One of these cards should have Jones on it...

While she was looking, she noticed the goat. Then gave Nikolai a very dubious glance.

"Uh-hunh," Kenzi said somewhat suspiciously. Hey, she wouldn't judge. At least she didn't think she would judge.

Ooo, look, a black Visa! That had to work, right? It even said Jones on it!

"You do know I own this hotel, right?"

"Fiiiiiine. This is going on your employee evaluation, though," Ms. Astra Jones said, handing over the Jones card.

She did kinda wonder where she got it from, though.

"This is appalling. Let me see that reader, it's clearly broken."

Oh, yup, that had to be it.

Kenzi stifled the immediate impulse to walk away with the reader.

(What was she even going to do with it? Why did she want it? A Woman of Mystery with a card machine... things to consider later.)

She poked at a few buttons, frowned, and poked another one, getting a little obnoxious BEEP and extra paper for her efforts.

"Yup. Broken. Okay! So, what are we going to do about this?"

SCORE! Kenzi kept the feeling of SCORE! under control to a pleased smile, and said, "That's very much appreciated. Clearly, you're not to blame for the equipment problems here. As the owner, I'm very pleased with your response to this spot-check." She grinned. "And I think I'll turn in for the night. With some room service, if the kitchen isn't having problems?"

SCORE SCORE SCORE DING DING DING!

Five stars! Would scam again! ... Ahem, would get a room from again!

"You're a peach, dude." She leaned over. "Keep doing a good job, goat!"

Kenzi reared back, hands up away from the goat, eyes wide, and said, "Maybe we'll get a new mascot! Maybe. Okay. I'll-- do that. Thank you again!"

Cue retreat! To nice suite with nom nom nom 'put it on my tab' room service!
