Oh Goddess oh Goddess oh Goddess oh Goddess--

It was a miracle Liara had found the presence of mind to locate a restaurant that would suit her mother's tastes, let alone get there in time to secure a table. She had dropped items she was holding twice already out of sheer nerves - let alone ruminations on the ramifications that her mother's presence on a planet that was not yet spacefaring would have--

What didn't exactly help her nervous state of mind was the fact that every other person at the table did not seem in the least bit ruffled by anything that was going on. Not that they should be... ruffled. Except they should be. This was a strange and bizarre dinner and Liara should have never blurted out her invitation to this event to anyone, let alone several individuals.

She shoved a breadstick in her mouth before she blurted out something else - like Goddess or how have you been, Caius?

Her mother just smiled, like the strange, ethereal creature that she was and Liara could never aspire to be like in any capacity.

"It has been a while," Yeul said cheerfully to Benezia. She smiled. "I am glad you could make it to the island. Did you have any troubles in the journey?"

Liara, after all, had been plagued by an inability to get home for quite awhile. Asking after any further difficulties was not out of the realm of ordinary.

And Yeul didn't mind the commonplaces of conversation.

"The journey went remarkably smoothly," Benezia said, with ease. She was not bothered by social settings the way her daughter was-- not in the slightest. "I found the Portalocity staff to be downright apologetic."

She smiled at Caius. "And your guest?"

"My apologies," Yeul said lightly. "I never did formally introduce you. This is Caius, my Guardian. Caius, this is Liara's mother, Benezia."

"Matriarch Benezia," Liara filled in swiftly. "Though the title is unnecessary."

Just necessary to point out, apparently.

"Benezia will be fine, Little Wing," Benezia said, smiling at her. "This is not a formal occasion."

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintence," Caius said, a bit wryly. "The portals were satisfactory."

He hesitated, then added, "I understand that Yeul was a guest of yours over the summer. My thanks for taking care of her."

"You are most welcome," Benezia said, inclining her head. "She was a joy to host. I am not used to my Liara making such fond friends. I can only encourage it."

"Making friends is a rarity for Yeul as well," he noted, reaching for his glass of water. "Liara has been good for her, I believe."

"Yes," Yeul said agreeably, not at all put-out at Caius talking as if she wasn't there. "She is very kind."

None of this was probably helping Liara's composure.

Liara? Liara was trying to sink beneath the table.

"Yeul has been kind to me as well," she said, audibly flailing, if not physically. "I... am grateful for her friendship, and what Caius has done for her-- I mean, what you have done for her-- I am glad you are keeping her safe, I suppose--"

"You suppose?" Caius asked, amused. "Well, you are welcome."

Yeul ducked her head slightly as she giggled despite herself.

"Caius," she said reproachfully. "Do not tease Liara."

"I am trying to pose you a compliment," Liara mumbled.

"It was," he said mildly. "My apologies for not taking it gracefully."
