Cafe Fina [Monday Afternoon]

After his successful trip to Wonderland yesterday, Hatter was wearing some of his newly retrieved duds to work this morning. They didn't look much different than his old clothes but he knew the difference. When he sat down in his chair after getting the staff to work, he felt comfortable and content. He reached for the morning's paper and started reading.

Hannibal paused at the notice board and couldn't resist coming in. He was dressed in a blue suit he'd managed to match to Jono's accent color, and Jono had spent the walk alternately curled in his pocket with his head out like a rather colorful pocket square and buried under his collar with his tie, where he was now.

"What on earth is 'evil tea'?"

"It's tea that's evil, of course," Hatter said, peering over his paper. "Evil, malevolent tea."

Hannibal raised an eyebrow. "I wasn't aware that tea had motivations."

"Everything has motivations, Dr. Lecter," Hatter said, smirking a bit. "Plants grow in certain ways for different reasons, animals attack certain people for different reasons, and tea chooses whether to be evil or good."

"And what has motivated this particular tea to choose its path?" Hannibal asked.

"A spider bite," Hatter said, just going for the utterly ridiculous now. "Changes people, man."

"An interesting side-effect of venom," Hannibal answered, dead-pan.

Jono peeked his head out long enough to give them both a Look.

"...have you gotten a pet?" Hatter asked, giving Jono a Look right back.

"Not precisely. Have you met Jonothan Starsmore? He's usually much taller and tends to wear leather rather than snakeskin."

Hannibal could give that look back, too.

"I think we've met once or twice," Hatter said, tilting his head. "And how cute you look taking care of a tiny little pet, Dr. Lecter! Very adorable."

"The last person that called him adorable got bitten," Hannibal said calmly in warning. "He is apparently rather poisonous."

He had your back, Jono! Even when you were all back.

"It's a compliment!" Hatter pointed out, frowning. "Why would attempted murder be a response for a compliment?"

"Apparently he'd rather be deadly than cute." Hannibal shrugged. "He's none too pleased to be a snake in the first place."

"When did this happen?" Hatter asked, leaning back. "Have you been caring for a tiny snake for awhile now and I just haven't noticed?"

"Thankfully not; it happened yesterday. And hopefully won't last too long." Hannibal shrugged. "How have you been? Apart from your tea getting spider-bit."

"Oh, dandy," he said, grinning. "Popped back home for a bit and brought back some clothes. My wardrobe here was dreadfully lacking and nothing I find in stores suits me."

Hannibal was not...well, yes, he was actually judging those clothes. And doing his best not to wonder what was worth going to another world for them. "That must have been a relief," he said instead. "Everything was well, I hope?"

"Has been for awhile," Hatter said, shrugging his shoulders and glancing around idly. "Bit boring too, if you ask me. But, I think most people there prefer that. It was a bit chaotic for awhile."

"I prefer a bit of interest myself," Hannibal confessed. "But I suppose chaos can be difficult."

It's a wee bit chilleh.
