Dite's Decadent Delights [Monday]

Given that she had to teach tomorrow (though at least this class was much less likely to inspire mortification in her students), and that they were in dire need of employees who weren't just herself and Sparkle, Irene actually went in and opened up the shop today. Inventory went fairly quickly, as usual, as did the bookkeeping, and when those were done, she placed a neatly-written sign in the window.

And with that done, she had all the time in the world to start squirreling away the holiday stock. No one needed Sexy Santa-themed anything in January, after all. (Unless that was your kink, in which case Irene certainly wasn't going to judge.)

She is around, and wondering who thought that red velveteen and white faux fur ever made for a particularly sexual combination, anyway.

Amy was doing the whole walking-through-town thing, trying to get the lay of the land before she started classes tomorrow, and then all of a sudden there was this place.

Yeah, okay, curiosity drew her inside. She had never been in one of these stores before.

And it was... intimidating.

"Um... hi." Seized by nervousness all of a sudden, she asked hurriedly, "Am I allowed to be in here? I'm sixteen."

"Allowed?" Irene didn't usually get that question, funnily enough, and it made her look over at the girl with some amusement. "Well, if you didn't bring a parent, I suppose you can come in by yourself."

She winked. "No, just kidding, of course you're allowed, luv. In fact, I'd rather say that at sixteen you should be encouraged to explore a store like this, honestly. Can I help you find anything?"

"Oh." Amy hadn't thought that far ahead, oops? But there was something she had in the back of her mind. "Well, my friend Shane - his mom sort of works at one of these places; well, she sells sex toys out of the trunk of her car - he had this idea that I should get a vibrator?"

Oh god, she was blushing so much.

"Okay, first of all, do not buy anything out of the back of a car that you're theoretically going to be putting near your naughty bits," Irene said, immediately making a face. "No offense to your friend's mother, but that's how you get a nasty case of trichinosis or worse, if you trust the wrong person. But our vibrators are right over here -- "

She strode over, her heels clicking against the floor, to the correct section and gestured. "If it's your first," she said, offering what she hoped was a reassuring smile, "I'd go for something simple? But even if you're not looking for one with all the bells and whistles, there's quite the range of sizes and variations as far as speed, texture, color -- that sort of thing."

Yeah, Amy did have her suspicions about the legitimacy of Shane's mom's business. Personally, she avoided buying anything out of the back of someone's car.

"Whoa." Yeah, that was quite a selection of choices. "Um, do you know what kind of criteria I should be using to differentiate here? I'm sort of a vibrator novice." To put it delicately.

But just in case that sounded dismissive, she added encouragingly, "But it seems like a very interesting field."

"Well, it's ultimately going to be about what's the best choice for you and your body," Irene explained, "so -- if you're looking more for, shall we say, external stimulation? I'd look at these, over here." She gestured to an assortment of smaller vibrators, in a wide variety of different materials.

"Those can be used internally as well, but some prefer something a little bigger for that, you know?" She nodded to a couple of the larger models, smiling. "And then we've got something that can do both, like the Rabbit."

This one she plucked up, holding it out to show Amy how it got its name. "Tried and true favorite of women the world over, but it might be a bit much for your first time. The floor models all have batteries, so you can test out their strength a bit, if you'd like."

A pause, and then, "You know, in your hand or something."

"Yeah, I'd be wary of testing anything that previous shoppers might have just put wherever," Amy agreed.

She gave a few models a shot, trying her best to look like she knew what she was doing and wasn't just switching them on and off at random.

"I think I like this," she decided finally. "It seems, um, compact. But there's still a lot of settings. And the shape isn't as, uh..." How could she put it? "...Penis."

Yes, good job using your words, Amy.

"Excellent choice," Irene commended, grinning at her. "And yes, very non-penis-y, good work. There's a bit of tendency to try to mimic things to a slightly absurd degree. Like, what are you going to do if your roommate stumbled across this?"

She wrinkled her nose as she jerked her thumb at a particularly...vascular model. "'Oh, no, that's just a back massager.' Yeah, no one's buying that. But that one you've got there is wonderfully discreet. Plus, you're not absolutely wed to the idea of playing with a vibrating penis this way, you know? It can be more...." She waved a hand vaguely. "Imaginative."

"Yeah, and my roommate's from the past? So I probably shouldn't invite that whole conversation." Because Amy was barely making it through this exchange without melting of embarrassment. "And the whole penis thing might be a little counterproductive in my case. I think."

Cough.

She plucked a fresh box of the Lelo model from the shelf, figuring that that gave her an opportunity to avoid awkward eye contact. "So hey, I know I just proved myself really inexperienced and everything, but I saw outside that you're looking for help around here? And I'm normally pretty good at organizational stuff and talking to people when I'm not looking for sex equipment. For myself, I mean."

"Inexperience isn't a deterrent," Irene assured her with a smile, leaning her hip against a shelf. Sorry, Amy, you were going to get a critical once-over, now, if you were a potential employee. "I'd expect you to learn what things are, to explain to customers, but where better to learn than a controlled environment like this? And I certainly haven't used everything in here firsthand, and neither has Sparkle, I'd imagine -- he's my only other employee."

She exhaled thoughtfully, tapping one red heel for a moment. "Could you start this week? You may have any day except for Fridays, as they are spoken for and I'd have to make you fight Sparkle for them."

She probably ought to run background checks, or something, but...eh. Effort. Hopefully she wouldn't burn the place down, or anything. And she seemed competent -- not to mention that that 'counterproductive' comment hadn't escaped Irene's notice.

The only thing a background check on Amy would reveal was a heap of clickbait articles about the teenage lesbians who had just been appointed Homecoming Queens in Austin. So... possibly relevant to this job?

Anyway, that was easier than Amy had expected. "Oh, yeah, no worries. I'll learn on the job. I'm great at learning. That's why I'm at boarding school, right?" Amy, you were rambling. "And I don't have any classes on Thursdays, so that would work. Did you say someone works here named Sparkle?"

"It's on all his paperwork," Irene said, lifting a shoulder in a shrug. "I think he might even be your student council president, darling. 'Least that's what I've heard when I've been up at the school."

She held out a hand to shake. "And Thursdays work beautifully. Welcome aboard. I'm Irene."

Because names were usually good in even the least formal of job interviews.

"Amy," she said, shaking Irene's hand firmly. "Thanks for this. The job, I mean. I know I have to pay for this."

Cute little red vibrators didn't grow on trees!

"Yes, but if you'll take a moment to do the boring paperwork stuff," Irene assured her, "I'll give you the employee discount today."

Win-win, yay!

"Sure!" Her first job and her first discounted sex toy. Amy was ready to call this a productive day.
