Fandom Post Office, March 17 (Tuesday)
Éponine had taken a long, meandering route to work this morning after leaving the radio station; now that it was warming up a bit she wanted to enjoy it, and that was part of her motivation, but it had also not escaped her notice that the plant life on the island did not seem to be faring very well of late and she wanted to have a look at that as well.
It definitely looked like it was getting worse, and no sign of that changing any time soon. On top of all that, part of her walk had taken her down by Serenity Cove, and she did not like the look of that water.
By the time she got to work she was frowning, though whether it was out of habitual suspicion or due to the island's state aggravating her inclination toward pessimism she couldn't really say.
Though having to clean up the scattered contents of a crate of wax replica grapes that had fallen over and smashed open on the floor of the mailing room sometime during the night likely contributed to the frowning as well.

... although she had to use it by sneaking in, first. And then moving a few of the boxes.

Éponine, out of habit, generally kept tabs on when her coworkers were in and out of the building, and no one was supposed to be there at this particular time.
So when she went to go investigate, she had a field hockey stick in her hands and don't ask why there was one in the post office, because she didn't know either. It had just taken up residence under the counter at some point, and no one had questioned why.
"Here now! What are you up to, whoever you are?"
This had better not be another ghost.

NFB from here!

Then again; just because she could think of several dozen ways to put something like that ring to use didn't mean those things were right. Did it? She didn't think so, but maybe . . .
Abruptly, she laughed. "Who on earth'd let you have something like this?"
Re: NFB from here!
"Nobody," she said airily, in a tone as convincing as a five-year-old explaining who at the last cookie. "I just found it." Maybe letting Éponine get her hands on the ring wasn't all that good of an idea? Hmm? "I've been having fun with it, though."
Re: NFB from here!
Beat.
"Or caught at it, I should say."

"So long's you're not really a ghost, I think I won't complain too much," she said wryly. "But you let other people think that as much as you want to."
She was still a little bit evil, okay?

She paced several strides beside the counter, chewing on her thumbnail and humming to herself, because that was a tempting prospect, but . . .
"No, no, that's all right," she decided. Reluctantly, it might be added. "There isn't anything I can think of that I want right now, anyway."
Except maybe a shiny new phone. Or -- no, she'd better not think about it.
Re: NFB from here!
Her attention span was all over the place lately, but hey, she wanted to know.

And now, a moment to be grateful that this narrative was not going to pause and go into a lengthy, symbolic digression on the Paris sewer system.
Because it wasn't a symbolism relevant to the current situation.
"And I'd like that," she went on, careening right into a more pleasant subject. "It's nice that the kids get to go all the time, but it's no fun around here for those of us who can't. Kitty mentioned something a while back, about seeing if some sort of trip could be arranged. I'd like that."
Re: NFB from here!
Kenzi grinned. "Coolness. Toby and I get into Baltimore sometimes, but something beyond that would be fun. Besides, those are 'work'." Heh. "I didn't see the cove. Weird, though. Maybe the baby island is up to something again. Just as good a reason to take a break from it, I don't need any more creepy dolls showing up."
Re: NFB from here!
"There have been an awful lot of odd occurrences lately. D'you think maybe the island's a bit worn out from subjecting us to all of that?" Éponine huffed. "Serves it right, if so. Still, we've got to live here. I'd rather it didn't get worse."

Re: NFB from here!
She pointed out the window. "Have a look later. It's hard to find anything green at all out there now. Perhaps it's nothing bad, but it's not very pretty, either. Anyway, I wouldn't put it past this island to manage to catch a cold."
Re: NFB from here!
"We'll figure out how to feed it chicken soup if it needs it." She yawned abruptly, looking surprised. "And maybe I wanna take a nap so I don't catch it, jeez."
Re: NFB from here!
And then a horrible thought occurred to her.
"Good lord. You don't think, if it's sick, we could catch it?"
