Caritas, Monday

Kenzi had heard alllll about the wee tiny people all over the place. And she was cackling that none of her demonspawn (literal and otherwise) had shown up this time.

She did go in a little early, though, before the portal probably was gonna show up. Because she was NICE.

Look, kids. Zombies!

Hey, maybe you can talk the bartender into a smoothie or something too. Or Jell-O!

For bouncing.

Hang out, talk to your very young parents, maybe eat the peanuts.

We are keeping all of the kids. That is all.

"I'll just have a bottle of whiskey," Atton said, sliding into a seat. "That should last me until my portal goes."

Okay, so he was bailing belatedly, but whatever.

"Feeling the exhaustion already, hunh?" Kenzi pulled out a pretty big bottle, opened it and asked, "How man didja get?"

"Just the one, which is more than I ever, ever, ever want," Atton said.

He wouldn't actually drink all of it, because whiskey was disgusting, but it got you tipsy quick.

Kenzi snorted. "Wuss." She grinned though and added, "Teen or tiny? I kinda think the teenage ones were worse. So judgmental."

"In the middle," Atton said, pulling a face. "And I'm not getting into the rest of it until I get a glass of that."

And he wouldn't even get far into it with a glass of that.

Kenzi handed over the whole bottle. "Tweens! Drink up."

"Eleven, to be exact," Atton said, and took a swig from the bottle, because kark it, it was that kind of weekend.

"Who's the co-parent? Or is there one? Getting stuck without someone else to shove the kid off on can blow."

"There is one," Atton said, pulling a face. "And that's all I need to say about that, too. Please tell me you got swamped in little rugrats, I might feel better."

"Sorry, dude. Not this time." Kenzi grinned the grin of someone highly relieved. "I had two little mind-readers last time, whammying people right and left to give them stuff or tell them their secrets. And I've got zero super-powers to cope with that. I am owed this break."

"Why can't the island take a hint and skip over the happily childfree?" Atton complained, taking another swig of his whiskey. "I didn't sign up for this."

"Beats the hell outta me," Kenzi said frankly. "I think maybe it wants to scare the students into using birth control, but for people who already know how...."

"Yeah, trust me, I have that one handled," Atton muttered. He shook his head. "Anyway, tonight, I'm getting out of here, and then we can forget about the whole thing."

Kenzi pinged a fingernail off the bottle. "This will help with that. Betcha still have nightmares, though... Not coming back for Prom weekend again, hmm? Or Valentine's Day?"

Atton snorted. "Sure, that'll work," he said, "And then one year, the island will slap us with it on Saint Patrick's."

"Heh. Which, considering how many kids show up because of St. Patrick's-- yup." So likely. "The kid will be future-you's problem again in a few hours. And maybe it's just a warning. 'Don't do this thing and you won't get this kid.'"

Atton let out a burst of laughter.

"Yeaaaah, I don't think whatever it is is ever going to happen," he said. "Ever. Ever."

And that was without getting into the bizarre biology it would involve. Probably.

... Unless it was voluntary OH SPACE WHAT IF IT HAD BEEN A CHOICE another swig of whiskey, please.

"Should I get you another bottle to go?"

"Not unless you actually want to kill me," Atton said, holding up his bottle to her, "But thanks for thinking of me."
