A Stone, Somewhere In The Woods, Thursday

The stone was stronger, now. Not a trace of its original wear and tear remained.

Its song rang out as clear as it could be, finding even the ears of those that lurked in the shadows.

if you dream them, they will come.

It wished for the echoes of those long gone to reach it-- to call them back.

[[ dreamers, come touch the stone! nfb ]]

It had been calling to him for days, now, silently murmuring to him in the back of his mind. And his dreams this week had been less fitful, soothed by a familiar smile and laughing eyes that even now, years and years later, he ached to see again.

This morning, he stopped resisting it, followed that call back to its source and stood there, staring down at it. Ah, yes. He knew this. And for a moment, Jonothon stood torn, wondering just how selfish it would be for him to --

-- crouch down, and gently brush his fingers against cool stone. The way he had done, almost without realizing that he was doing so. And just like that, the siren song stopped calling him, and his reservations left him.

He stood, and turned, and left, feeling a little more at peace.

Celia had woken feeling warm and content and happy, with the echoes of a child's laughter still filtering through her foggy mind. And without quite knowing what she was doing or why, she found herself following a new, strange instinct -- something similar to the pull of her magic, but foreign.

If you dream them, they will come.

It didn't take her very long; Celia was quite good at following where her feelings led, and when she found the stone in the woods, she knew -- without really knowing how she knew -- that she'd found what she was looking for.

She knelt, brushing her fingers against the stone, and closed her eyes. This felt better, though she wasn't sure why. Her mother still dominated her thoughts, a warm but persistent presence at the edge of her mind, but Celia felt much more at peace with it.

And honestly, as she walked back to the dorms, she felt more at peace about her mother than she had in a decade.

Atton had been ignoring the call for as long as he could - but it was starting to drive him nuts. (That was all there was to it; the dreams had nothing to do with it. Really.)

It was fairly late into Thursday that he finally showed up, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket and his feet adopting a casual stroll. A stroll that didn't end until he was standing directly in front of the stone.

"Screw you," he said. "Get out of my head, or I'm coming back with a hammer."

Then he turned and left.

If there was something pulling Derek somewhere, he was doing his best to avoid it. Because his life. His life.

But, unfortunately for him, that lure managed to pull in Puppy Joe. And with him came Derek who was still a little out of it from the strange dreams he'd been having this week. That was the excuse he'd use to explain why he managed to walk right into the damn stone despite his best efforts.

"You're the worst dog ever."

Puppy Joe was unrepentant.

There had been dreams this week. Not quite nightmares. Just. Wonderings. About her father. Hanna hadn't had any children arrive last weekend-- bizarre thought-- but family... family made her remember.

On her usual run through the Preserve, she found herself taking a new path without thinking about it.

There was a stone in the clearing she stopped in. Hanna curled up next to it for a while, face pressed to its smooth surface, sadness heavy in her stomach. So many unanswered questions....

She left a little lighter, and tried to forget the interlude as soon as she was out of sight.
