The Perk, Tuesday afternoon

Jessica had spent quite a bit of time recently reviewing what she knew about the situation with her world (it couldn't be found) and what she could do about it (call friends who wouldn't answer and Portalocity, which was less helpful than her friends). She eventually realized something simple that she had missed completely.... Unfortunately, Spider-UK's phone apparently wasn't in service. At least she could feel better that something so simple was out of play now.

Of course, that just meant starting over. She took over a table at the Perk, laying out all of her notes on interdimensional travel, phone logs with Portalocity, and schematics for a portal device based on what she used during the Inheritor affair. She had decided that she wasn't leaving here until she had something useful figured out or she had drunk too much coffee to stop shaking. And with her metabolism, that second thing wouldn't happen for a while.

Sia had mostly gotten her stuff out of her room, and actually had word from home, so she was at the Perk mainly because it was an excuse to stop in there for one of the last times.

"I'm never not. I multitask like crazy or I get bored," Jessica said, putting a notepad down before she looked up. "How's it going, graduate?"

"Almost gone, actually," Sia said, taking a seat. "I'm down to the last-minute things before leaving."

"If you're interested in one last gremlin bite to see you off, I'm sure we could find one somewhere," Jessica joked.

Sia made a face. "Let's not. One tattoo is enough."

"If you insist," Jessica said. "What do you still have on your to-do list? Anything you need help with?"

"Mostly cleaning, and trying to calm my dog down so he doesn't think an empty room is the end of the world," Sia said. "If you'd like to help with that. Otherwise I'm killing time until my portal tomorrow."

"I'm awesome at killing time," Jessica said. "Less awesome with pets. I don't think they trust me."

"Vitor loves everyone," Sia pointed out. "It's actually a bit of a problem."

"Like, yes. Trust, I'm not sure. Or maybe it's just the fact that I tend to keep five million secrets at any given moment," Jessica said. "It might make me slightly paranoid."

"There's nothing wrong with slight paranoia," Sia said. "Though I trust you, and that should be enough for him."

"We'll see. But if he gives me shifty looks, don't say I didn't warn you," Jessica said as she started to pick up her notes.

She was going to have plenty of time to work on this stuff after tomorrow anyway.

"I am warned," Sia said. "I didn't mean for you to stop what you're doing."

"I'm not getting anywhere right now anyway. And hey, I should enjoy my time with you before you're gone, you know?" Jessica askd.

"Though it's not like I won't be back," Sia said. "And I'm always available to talk."

"It's different. That's calling and visiting. This is being right here to save my butt when I need it," Jessica pointed out.

"Your butt rarely needs saving," Sia pointed out.
