The Park - Wednesday Afternoon

The day seemed nice to Vic, so she dumped all her paperwork on Ralph's desk and announced that she was going on patrol. Which apparently involved getting a sandwich and throwing the occasional piece of bread crust to the ducks.

Hey. Those ducks looked really suspicious. Good thing a cop was around to keep them in line.

Eliot had intended to hold office hours on Wednesdays, but it was far too nice out for him to bother being stuck indoors all day. Especially not when he had an exciteable puppy who needed exercising. So he and Val were out in the park instead, playing catch with a frisbee and resolutely not thinking about the last time Eliot had brought Val out to the park to play catch.

He spotted Vic and ambled his way over. "Hard at work as usual, I see."

"Oh yeah. I'm totally known as the hardass teacher." Well. Probably more as the lazy teacher, this session. "Makin' sure they all wear bike helmets and life vests and such."

Val came trotting up to say hi. It was a process involving rather a lot of bouncing and tail wagging.

Val snatched up the bit of sandwich before Eliot could get started objecting. "That's my dog," he said instead. "She's got her own food, thanks."

What was with everyone trying to feed his dog? "I make it myself," he said.

Because that was going to help.

"Her name's Val."

Val yipped happily and tried to lick Vic's chin.

"Then you'll get to clean it up when she pukes that crap back up," Eliot said. "You ever get tired to tryin' to rile me up?"

"The worst," Eliot said, smiling back. ". . . Well, second worst. At least you don't poke me."

Okay, Eliot seriously had to make some reasonable friends.

"You're never going to out-annoy Parker."

Or at least learn to keep his mouth shut.

Oh . . . he did.

"That actually might freak out Hardison more than it does me."

Hardison was pretty easy to freak out, though.
