Luke's, Monday

Eliot came into the diner that moment to the smell of roasting mutton and yogurt. The kitchen staff greeted him with a cheerful "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!" and handed him a cup with a very distinctive aroma. Eliot raised an eyebrow.

"How the hell did you get your hands on a bunch of chal? You can't even get this stuff outside of Central Asia."

"Shubat," the dishwasher corrected. "And I got it when I went home for Father's Day yesterday."

Eliot blinked. "You're Kazakh?"

"On my dad's side."

Eliot looked over the food the dishwasher and the cook had been preparing. "Okay, but half this stuff is Kyrgyz."

The dishwasher beamed. "On my mom's side!"

Eliot blinked again, then shrugged and took a sip of his shubat. That was some good fermented camel milk.
