Stark Industries, Tuesday

Well, today was the big day. Jessica had a few dimensional coordinates that should match her world and, if any were wrong, they shouldn't be far off. Maybe instead of Earth-16107737 she got 16107736 or 16107738. At worst, 16107747. No matter what, she should be able to get a baseline reading and prove that everything was alright.

There were some calibration tests first, of course. Jessica had a few probe drones that Tony built. She took some readings around Fandom, then across the causeway to see what readings she could expect. Temperature, location, air quality and composition, background radiation, dimensional coordinates. Everything she could hope for to get a basic idea of what was going on around the drone.

She started up the machine for one last calibration test: she opened a portal to the mainland, sent a drone through, and confirmed that all the readings checked out. Furthermore, the portal was stable, and the drone could return unscathed. That was good.

So it was the moment of truth. Five drones, five coordinates that should zero in on Earth-16107737. Each time Jessica opened a portal, she sent a drone through and moved onto the next. Once all five were deployed, she turned to her computer.

The readings came through, but they said nothing. No temperature. No location. No air. No time. No... worlds. Jessica tried to download pictures, but they just showed unending blackness.

If the readings were correct, then none of these worlds - these universes - even existed. It seemed impossible. How could you open a door to a place that didn't exist? In the back of her head, Jessica suspected that it wasn't that they didn't exist. But maybe they did exist... in the past tense. Fortunately, there was an infinite number of possibilities to focus on first, so after getting some more readings, she was able to bring the drones back.

So. It was entirely possible that the coordinates she had were bad. Sure, the drones checked that the dimensions were what she intended, but maybe her input was faulty. Maybe she was going to have to poke around with a little less precision just to make sure there wasn't a bigger problem at hand with the machine. Maybe she and Tony could figure the puzzle out. And maybe there might be an answer that contradicted what Portalocity had been saying along and that she had seen herself.

When you found out that your world... and maybe multiple worlds... were just gone out of nowhere and it happened when you were resting from some injuries, it was a hell of an inspiration to find any other answers you could.

[OOC: Open, as businesses tend to be. Please note that Jess won't be in the most chipper mood, though.]
