The Perk; Tuesday Afternoon
The amount of free time Jasper had still amazed him. In Lobo's Nod, he'd been in school for most of the day followed up by spending time with Connie and then going home to take care of his grandmother. Here, it was a class here and there and then nothing. After so many months, Jasper had a routine down but the quiet and the freedom still got to him. It crawled up his neck, burrowing its way into his muscles, making him think of things that were better off left in horror movies.
Part of the routine today had been to stare at the victims of his father as soon as he'd woken up. He'd paid particular attention to his mother and found himself missing her more than usual. After awhile, he'd closed the file and put it away in the lock box underneath his desk. He didn't think anyone would go snooping but he wanted to make sure of it.
Once that was done, he'd walked into town and wandered into the Perk for something to drink. He went with something cold and caffeinated, something with a huge topping of whipped cream and retreated to a table in the corner, near the window. His back was against the wall (a rule passed down from Billy) while he watched people pass.
His gaze was intent, almost a glare, but that couldn't be helped. Every person that passed by was a prospect. He appraised them, made judgments and then had to stop himself. "People are real, people matter."
Jasper sighed and shook his head before starting that all over again.
[ Open. Feel free to notice him staring (though he'd be very good at making sure you don't notice) or just use this place for what it's there for! ]
